Do we need to worry about clean drinking water?

Thinking about filters and longer term solutions rather than 'get 24 bottle of evian'

I'm guessing this is about Brexit, not being in a war zone somewhere.
If my guess is correct, I think the water supply in the U.K. will probably be ok. As the pipes and water supply system has worked effectively in the U.K. for many years. I really can't see why that will change

I have a water straw just in case. They aren’t that expensive and having one stopped me worrying.
Rationing and limiting non drinking uses of water (flushing toilet etc) would probably kick in first before a major crisis

Stardust - it is about the chemicals used in purifying water that are shipped from the Eu rather than the water itself

KatyMac · 28/01/2019 23:54

Are straws worth it - I wondered if they were a fad?

Is any brand better?

I don’t know on brand.
And again I’m not sure if fad or not - I think they work though.
I just know I’m happier having one. And saves me having to stockpile hundreds of plastic bottles.

I have water purifying tablets for camping. They're cheap.

I an vaguely remembering something about a potential shortage of a chemical used to treat sewage...

KatyMac · 29/01/2019 00:17

Vague or not I'd rather be prepared

After googling I see they do a family life straw

Hmm decisions

I've ordered one, if Brexit doesn't affect water we can always use it for camping

ElyElyOy · 29/01/2019 09:14

The chemicals are likely to be prioritised and I think it’s unlikely that Brexit will affect water supplies (except maybe hose pipe bans and probably price rises in the long term).

As a general prep having a bit of water, means to manage without it for a bit (even dry shampoo, you’d still have to go to work if your water was off for a few days), a water butt for the garden, buckets to transport water in to the house to use to flush the loo etc. Water purification tablets are cheap if you want an added back stop.

Unlikely to be a Brexit problem but more generally, life straw, water purification tablets, boil to sterilise collected water that is first filtered through a T-shirt to get rid of big bits.
Even drops of thin bleach in water to sterilise it. Can't remember the ratio. I'm away from home but I wrote it on the side of a bottle of thin bleach I have in the garage.
