Hi,
I've got a good supply of food that I am adding to weekly but what non-food ideas are a good idea to stock up on please?

We are a family of four. Me, DDs age 11 and 10, and DS 4.

Things you'd miss.

So, stuff like loo paper, shampoo, soap / shower , toothpaste, laundry powder or gel, dettol, first aid stuff & medicines, candles and matches, torch, batteries, ice scraper.

A lot depends if you are prepping for power cuts or not.

AutumnCrow · 23/01/2019 12:32

Sorry should say 'shower gel'!

PerverseConverse · 23/01/2019 12:41

Cripes, I hope to all that's holy there's no issues with power. I have told the children we need to locate all the hot water bottle stoppers though so we've got a hwb each. No idea where the stoppers disappear to. Although no way of heating water if no gas or electric.

Will get extra toiletries this week, thanks.

I don't envisage (yet) brexit leading to power cuts. I was brought up prepping for weather-related outages, so it's just habit I guess.

Plus, if there are a few days or weeks of post-brexit shortages, I'd rather avoid my local supermarket. It's bad enough at xmas. I don't want to be arguing over who gets the last smart price bog roll.

I've stocked up on my foundation Blush. I might be living on pasta but I am not going anywhere without a face on - fuck off DM

I'll probably make sure my home office is stocked with printer paper and ink in the next couple of days.

And I've got flea treatments to collect in February (cats) for the next three months.

Car parts can be an issue, so if you have repairs coming up, get them done now
Pet medications
If you need spare bits like bags for your vacuum, filters for your water jug, etc

SingleDadReally · 23/01/2019 21:40

I’d get an AK47-very handy for those stand-offs over the last ppt noodle in Asda

NorthEndGal · 23/01/2019 22:21

@SingleDadReally dont be a jack ass
A decent AR 15 is a lot cheaper and easier to handle for a novice

SingleDadReally · 23/01/2019 23:23

North end gal-you’re so right, apologies-I’ll work on increasing my paranoia to Nevada back woods levels....

bellinisurge · 24/01/2019 06:33

@SingleDadReally , you've been ever so busy . And on here some lovely stereotyping too.
You don't need to be a prepper to prep for Brexit. But you are having fun having a go at people who are making some extra plans to help their families.
No idea if you are male or female but it looks rather like you have a problem with people taking a bit of control of their situation in a period of uncertainty. Maybe you could spend your time considering why that is.

Non-food extras? Toothpaste and sanpro are a good idea. And painkillers- obviously stored out of the reach of kids (sorry for patronising but I don't want some dickhead saying that I am encouraging people to have stacks of drugs next to food)
You probably already have this sort of thing anyway but if you are all stuck in the house for a couple of days, having some ideas in advance for passing the time would be an idea. There is only so much you can binge watch on TV etc.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/01/2019 06:38

It depends how far you want to go, but items for swapping! If you run out of something you can barter with a friend/neighbour. In that category I’d put wine and alcohol, bars of soap. Could be any thing though really.

SnuggyBuggy · 24/01/2019 09:48

We've got some rechargeable batteries and charger. Apparently our batteries are all imported

PerverseConverse · 24/01/2019 13:45

I went to Tesco today and my usual shampoo and conditioner were on offer so got 2 of each. Also got toothbrushes and a plastic storage box to keep stuff in but will need another one as half full already.

There were empty sections of freezer (fish I think), huge gaps in fabric softener as on offer, and I got the last tin of custard powder. I think people are making use of offers and stocking freezers.
