Preppers

Can I ask what you are prepping for? Is it Brexit?

I'm not really familiar with prepping, apart from the odd American documentary. It seems to be becoming more mainstream - I'm interested to know what people are preparing for? Is it Brexit? Or other contingencies? I've just spent half an hour browsing the Preppers topic, reading about stashes and bugout bags, and I'm intrigued!

An economic crisis, mainly.

Brexit and snow

But more the former

Snow, unemployment, illness, power cuts (had a few), water supply problems (my late mum had this). Brexit means other stuff like food supply problems and even pockets of civil unrest - problems which I didn't really consider likely a few years ago - are also now more likely.
Brexit didn't make me a prepper. It just made me thankful that I was one.

I grew up miles from anywhere so it was normal to me to have a few weeks supply plus all the produce from the land. I feel comfortable knowing we have stuff in. I’m upping my game for Brexit though. Making sure we have everything covered. Need to get another big shop in before the vote.

Currently Brexit (supply chain issues and resulting problems with economy) and always at this time of year I have more in in case of snow.

Health (I have health problems that mean I can’t get out the house for days/week at a time), financial problems (previously experienced redundancy, when you have to choose between paying your mortgage and eating it’s hard), and weather (living in a flood zone and getting cut off puts it in perspective). I also live quite “preppily”, so for example my car is always stocked so the occasions when I get stuck on the motorway for 3 hours or so don’t feel as painful!

I don’t Brexit prep because I don’t really need too, because I already prep: the only thing I’m doing specifically for Brexit is bulk buying a specific brand of German chocolate that I like (limited choices due to allergies).

I’m not really a prepper, but during winter I always make sure I have enough food, some long life milk, etc, in case of snow. Due to mn, maybe considering extra food due to Brexit, although i’m More worried about food price increases, rather than shortages.

Not a real prepper here either but I have issues from childhood poverty so my cupboards are frequently heaving. Also we prefer to keep the car fuelled to avoid stress if looking for petrol stations when we are in a different area or a long journey.

When we lived in a country with lots of earthquakes we kept the following

Bottled water
Long life fruit juice
Canned fruit
Canned veg
Lentils/beans
Pasta/rice/dried mashed potatoes
Biscuits
Cereal bars
Mars bars or similar
Basic first aid items
Tea/coffee/sugar
Camping stove and gas canisters
Solar powered torches and chargers
Small amount of cash
Dog food

We kept half in the house and half in the garage as it was separate.

When the big earthquake hit we were extremely lucky and our house survived where neighbours didn’t, but we had no electricity or water supply for 5 days. Also, when the next hill over from the nearest one was ablaze I was able to literally chuck a few bags of food and drink in the boot of the car.

I have relaxed considerably since returning to the U.K.
