This doesn't seem to be being discussed here much... If the shit truly hits the fan, I'm going to assume that fuel supplies will be low, and what there is will be panic bought, or reserved for things like emergency service vehicles and public transport. Unlike tins of tomatoes, it's not easy to store petrol safely.

I remember the 2000 fuel crisis - it didn't take long for things to go south news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/924574.stm

With that in mind, I'll be having my already well used bike serviced again in March and buying some spares of consumables (inner tubes, brake pads etc). I've already got a good set of panniers (Ortlieb) which I can easily get a weekly shop into, but I'm considering getting a trailer for larger items - this sort of thing www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B078VZV9FP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.iD8BbV5AATCF?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-preppers-3427603-Transport-related-prepping" rel="nofollow" target="blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B078VZV9FP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa.iD8BbV5AATCF

I don't have young DC, but if I did I'd be looking at getting a cargo bike for transporting them to school and much larger quantities of shopping - like this www.christianiabikes.com/

I'm lucky in that I'm not really reliant on my car, but what plans are other people making for petrol shortages and transport?

I never let my petrol tank get less than half full. I think it's a useful habit to get into.
I can walk to shops but have food stored anyway to make that less crucial. I have comfy walking shoes and a waterproof coat or two - it rains a lot here.
My DD's school is walking distance.
I regularly work from home. Dh does too although we try not to do that on the same day . If we have to ....
Both my parents are dead now but my in-laws live a couple of miles away. Again, walkable.
My dad died shortly before the petrol crisis and I was driving 60 miles to see him and help my Mum with him - he died of cancer - about 3 times a week. I dread to think how we would have managed but I suppose we would have worked something out.

We live in a village so basic amenities are walkable (less than a mile). Family are the next village over and also walkable (3 Miles).

We have decent boots/coats etc for all but the absolute worst weather. We can both work from home. My son is in a buggy still, and I also have a carrier.

We do fill the cars up with petrol when they get down to half though and have a push bike between us. I think the next car we look at will probably be a hybrid though: partly for environmental reasons and partly to give us more options.

@bellinisurge - im very sorry to hear about your Dad. My Dad is very ill at the moment and I very much appreciate how close he lives. I have worked out he fastest/flattest/easiest routes to walk/bike/buggy/drive etc, just in case we need to get there quickly x
