Will you share supplies with Brexiteer family members?

It got me thinking. I have one very vocal Brexiteer DM, who has questioned my sanity for saying I was planning to stockpile for Brexit. We're not especially close, but not NC either.

According to her, Brexit is going to be brilliant for absolutely everyone (even me - and I work in a sector which will be one of the first to be hit when people cull discretionary spending).

Would you share your carefully stockpiled food with someone who had voted leave (and hence brought on the situation themselves) and who had wilfully chosen not to prep, against government advice?

Without a doubt. Whether they voted remain or leave would have absolutely no impact on helping somebody out.

I hope this is not a common question of remainers because if it is, i can see why a leave vote was made.

Of course I word. Makes you sound like a bit of a twat to be saying otherwise to be honest... you’d let your family starve because they’re a bit stupid and gullible?

At least own it and say you’d let her starve because you don’t like her very much, that would be more honest.

And I bet in actuality this is more about you having lovely fantasies about saying ‘I told you so’ while scoffing hoarded beans in front of her fact Grin

It's like the Aesop's fable about the lazy, deluded grasshopper who didn't prepare food for winter, and the hardworking, sensible ant who did!

I won't have to worry about sharing my stuff with family or not... my parents have a bigger store cupboard than me!
Should I run out of anything, I'm sure they'll share though. Grin

No. None of my Brexiteer family members live near me so not an option for them.

bellinisurge · 29/07/2018 13:37

If my Brexiteer nephew travelled 100 miles to my door and begged me to let him in and feed him, of course I would. Would I go out of my way to take stuff to him? No. I love him. He's an adult. Has a degree and a professional job and everything.

ClashCityRocker · 29/07/2018 13:45

Yes, I would. I'm not going in for major level prepping, just making sure I have enough food in the house for a few weeks to make any supply change disruption as painless as possible.

I will be making sure my mum fills in her repeat prescriptions which I try and keep an eye on anyway and that her freezer and tinned cupboards will be well stocked.

If prices shoot up, I imagine I will be taking on some of her shopping too as she only has esa and pip.

I will be doing similar for my mother in law.

I am hopeful it won't get to that stage, but think the risk is enough to merit a 'just in case' approach.

I would share with my parents even though they voted leave Angry
They are stocking up themselves though- my mum loves a crisis even though she helped create it Angry

Very tempted not to, but I’d have to explain to the DC why their —bloody idiot— father isn’t allowed to eat.

oohyoudevilyou · 02/08/2018 14:32

I'll share, but they'll have to trade skills for it! DBiL is a DIY ace, so he can fit out my wardrobes with shelves, and Dsis is good at sewing, so she can do a few alterations and bits of mending I've got hanging around. In fact, I'm depending on food shortages so I get a few jobs done!Wink

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 14:40

Excellent @oohyoudevilyou - trade skills/knowledge for food if you have it to spare and need the skill/knowledge.

cloudtree · 02/08/2018 17:11

Luckily I spoke to all of my family members and made sure they understood the issues before voting. They all voted remain.

I'm speaking to all of my family members and making sure that they have supplied to last a couple of weeks just in case. They're fed up of me nagging so I know they will. DSis is starting from scratch and sending me a daily photo of her extra item (she lives next door to a supermarket so generally doesn't have much in at all.)

Also stock up on large luggage labels and fancy pens. Then after Brexit you can affix a beautiful, handwritten note to each tin of beans. 'Told you so' and 'Remain beans'. Grin
