U.K. Preppers - what should we do to prepare for the next few weeks/months/years of shit? Or is it all too late?

Stockpile?

No idea. I don't think anyone knows.

I got cash out yesterday. I left petrol for those in more need.

We're going to be eating all our beans...

It hasn't changed much about the way I live. I was actually thinking last night that if one of the big ones goes in the next hour - as they clearly could - it would make all this uncertainty look like nought.

It won't change much for me but I'm watching carefully. I think having a bit of cash in the house would be a good bet though.

I'm not really that concerned yet, it'll be a weird week or so i think while people digest happenings.

Where to start?

Have a read about the Cascadia subduction zone and then work your way through mega tsunamis and dirty bombs/nuclear war towards global pandemic, Yellowstone and antibiotic resistance.

As I said, those are real SHTF situations, though, and there's virtually nothing you can do about any/most of them. You're better off restricting yourself to what you can realistically achieve for you and your family.

A bit of spare cash around is usually good if you can afford it.

Big bank

My petrol light came on and i am still in a huge petrol que. Supermarket is also OTT busy.

The baked bean shelves will be emptying fast, I suspect. (Along with choice provender from overseas.)

Things should calm down soon with any luck.

They always do cozie I am glad we did the big food shop and filled the car up earlier this week. I don't fancy the supermarket today although things never seem to go into the panic buying here. I'm not checking anyroad.

Stay calm. Bit more cash at home, full fuel tanks in the cars and that's it.

I've put a stop on all major expenditures we were planning- holiday, new sofa etc and have started saving more. I don't like keeping cash in the house but should I?

My advice is keep enough cash to cover essential travel and food for a week.

I agree, keep some cash in the house, I've only got about 300 quid or so, a full tank and plenty of store food. I'm not really concerned. My mindset is programmed for ripply waters.

Yy gamerchick, Martin Lewis told someone on social media to go ahead with their house purchase if they had the money to do so. Personally I wouldn't, but only because our jobs rest precariously on the edge of EU funding.

For now we have some cash, some food - not too much as in the case of an actual SHTF situation the first thing the neighbours might notice is "no.3 have a lot of money don't they!" Fingers crossed though that a month from now this all feels like some weird blip on the radar.

Some of the comments on that DM link are predictably Perception. Scary stuff.

Apparently there are 3 protests happening or planned in Newcastle as well according to the police page on Facebook I remember reading earlier. Things may be wonky for a bit.

Our asda was mega busy last night but seemingly it was mostly booze. #prorities

I've filled both cars, done my usual food shop but with a few extras (toiletries/tins etc that won't go off) and taken some cash out to keep at home. DH actually made the winter wood order yesterday as well, but I think he was always intending to do that in June.

I'm v annoyed that I didn't get my dollars for the summer hol before it all went to ratshit - OK so it will only be a difference of £40 or so but it still rankles.

I'm not worried or anything, just trying to work out what will go up in price for the next few weeks.

Well it's not the zombie apocalypse but it's nice to have some sort of plan.

Of course. Just thinking about the future is most of what prepping is about in my view.

I suppose for the greater good we probably should continue to spend, I just can't risk it. We don't have a great emergency fund to begin with.
