And I guess you might as well put them all together in a fire safe? Smile

Did the OP ever come back?

I don't understand why people don't get prepping. Confused

If you do it for a business it's called business continuity or disaster recovery. It's taken very seriously and any large company without a plan for how to carry on if disaster strikes would be considered very lax.

But if you do it for your family people think you're nuts, why is that?!

I wonder if maybe it's that people feel comfortable and safe in the civilisation we live in, and don't want to face uncomfortable things like it's unlikely to carry on forever, or what could happen if we lost access to petrol imports or had a war on British soil or something else catastrophic, or even just something a bit inconvenient!

I don't do prepping myself, but not because I don't want to - if the rest of my life was vaguely organised I'd start on a prepping plan, but I need to sort the rest of it out first! You lot are queens of organisation!

It's too big. The potential for disaster is so massive that nearly all people become paralysed into inaction - in the UK at least - if they consider it seriously. It's easier to laugh a little and prepare supper.

I think you're probably right Cozie.

Did you see ArtsNight tonight?

To give you an idea of the theme - the tune at the end was REM's "The End of the World as We Know It".

Well worth a watch.

I'm a mini prepper I live in big city. If we have a power cut in flat we also have no water as no pump. I'm disabled so no power = no lift to get to shops for food water etc. If did t have stand by phone charges I coulnt connact anyone for help. So I'm organised keep small amount supplies to get me through 3-4 days.

cozietoesie · 04/06/2016 08:35

That sounds very sensible, Akire.

I dipped into it, Blink. That and no more, I'm afraid. I've lived with the prospect of imminent global catastrophe for all of my adult life and I'm amazed, frankly, that we've made it this far.

You do what you can - and if that's only in a limited way, so be it.
