Anyone else seen this, would be interested to know what you think. Being touted as likely because of the exceptionally strong El Niño this year. I know bugger all about weather prediction, any thoughts?

lorelei9 Ahhhh I see. Mind you, Summer seems to come full on in March doesn't it when its supposed to be Spring. :)

AlwaysBeYourself · 29/11/2015 21:43

Ok Slightly Im in North Wales and no snow here.....yet

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2015 21:43

come over to the weather section where we have been speculating on the winter to come :)

El Nino tends to have more of a cold influence in the second half of the winter.

Stratter5 · 29/11/2015 22:15

That's exactly what I read OYBBK, wet, windy, and mild temps for the first half - exactly what we've been having here (East Mids), and extremely cold second half.

BadKitten I went over. Hope it was the correct thread.

Stratter maybe it depends where you live. Here it has been very wet and windy but last week very cold and snow on the mountains and lower hill areas. Still cold here too.

peggyundercrackers · 29/11/2015 22:31

I read we were meant to get 19inches of snow today, we were lucky to get 19mm never mind 19 inches. Don't believe what you read in the papers - it's all over dramatasised to help them sell... Does anyone believe the weather men? Have they ever been right? We haven't had any of the 70mph winds either... Maybe north east Scotland will miss the storm.

AlwaysBeYourself · 29/11/2015 22:57

Peggy we have had those 70 mph winds, flooding and snowShock

swisscheesetony · 29/11/2015 23:08

Where I am we're seeing disturbing changes in the sea temperature. As of just a few weeks ago the temp was 4 degrees higher than it should've been... does not bode well for general climate change.

peggy hitting us weds night I believe.

Stratter5 · 29/11/2015 23:27

Eek tony - like in The Day After Tomorrow?

swisscheesetony · 29/11/2015 23:50

Well general thought around here is that the gulf stream has shifted 30 miles or so... but I'm no weatherologist. Wink

AlwaysBeYourself · 30/11/2015 10:51

Severe wind again here

Temporaryanonymity · 30/11/2015 10:54

I've just looked at photos I took on the beach here in South Wales this time last year. We were in shorts and t shirts and my sons were in the sea. I distinctly remember being in a vest top and feeling the warmth of the son on my arms.

Hard to imagine as I listening to the wind outside today!

peggyundercrackers · 30/11/2015 10:59

swisscheesetony I will enjoy the sun today before the storm comes on Wednesday then...

TheSlightlyEmbarrassedPrepper can I ask why you fill flasks before you go to bed? im honestly baffled.

peggyundercrackers · 30/11/2015 11:01

we have absolutely no wind today - not a drop. its a nice sunny brisk day in ne Scotland.

AlwaysBeYourself · 30/11/2015 11:33

Peggy sounds lovely. We have had wind and rain, sleet and snow for thus last three weeks.

lorelei9 · 30/11/2015 19:29

Always "lorelei9 Ahhhh I see. Mind you, Summer seems to come full on in March doesn't it when its supposed to be Spring."

wow - wondering where you live?

here are The Seasons According to Lorelei Grin

Winter - November, December, January, February
Spring - March, April, May
Summer - June, July, August
Autumn - September, October

depressing to see which season takes up the most...but 'tis reality.

AlwaysBeYourself · 30/11/2015 19:57

Don't you find most years that come the end of March we have boiling hot days.

lorelei9 · 30/11/2015 20:03

Always - define "boiling hot" - I'd need to see 30C before I used the word "boiling".

to be anywhere near summer, it's got to be 20C I reckon. March is usually just into double figures if we're lucky.

I hate to sound mad but are you sure you're not thinking of May?! Grin

lorelei9 · 30/11/2015 20:04

I'm guessing SlightlyEmbarrassed fills flasks with hot water in case of heating packing up?

I live in a really warm building but debating buying something like a gel burner just in case there's a power cut and it's snowing or whatever. If none of us had any leccy it would get cold very fast I expect!!

swisscheesetony · 30/11/2015 20:07

hahahahaha - and breathe...

Our official high this year was 18... the car said 20 one day.

peggy Have you seen magicseaweed? The weekend is looking erm... "interesting". disappears inside black weather circle of doom

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/11/2015 20:19

updated winter outlook thread :) so be prepared for more wind and more rain (be alert if you live in the NW especially rain wise) then perhaps snow and proper cold sometime in the New Year. Something for everyone!

peggyundercrackers · 30/11/2015 20:20

The local weather report said it's going to get warmer here and there may be several centimetres of snow but it will go quickly because it will be 12degrees. So much for the worst winter of the century...

Why would hot water flasks be any good if the heating packs up? Confused is she a tiny person and she is going to have a bath in the water that the flask holds? That's the only way I can think she could use a hot water flask full of water to heat herself.

swisscheesetony · 30/11/2015 20:32

I was thinking it was to serve an EMERGENCY coffee to screw her head back on until she can implement the plan! Grin

Rain? Wind? Gotcha! We had hail about an inch deep this morning whilst I was considering rounding up the sheep to drench them... I decided to leave that for another day.
