I've just checked our fire alarm. Seems to work which is good! And I've finished packing our second emergency rucksack.

Just wondering what fellow preppers are up to Grin

The bowsers are a little large, 680 litres i think, found them on ebay when i was browsing a couple of days ago, actually bought 2 of them just need to find the space for them once i have collected them

Have also stashed a little extra food today when i went shopping

Next job is plodding around the house trying to work out what electrical stuff is on all of the time and how much we actually need in power output from a backup generator, what is essential and what could be switched off so just the essentials are powered

cozietoesie · 20/11/2015 22:56

Just ordered two more dynamo lanterns.

Tomorrow is final Xmas list day so there could be some interesting present choices for people. Smile

I'm about to brave IKEA so will definitely return with something for the store. At the very least a stock up on candles since Ive got about £80 of credit note to spend.

Kacie123 · 21/11/2015 12:45

A visit to IKEA needs some serious prep in itself in our house atticus! Bloody maze!

Hmm well I came back with a large pack of church candles, a pack of tea lights and a fire extinguisher to live in the garage near to the furnace. Plus two of their £3 fleeces.

Did buy new snow boots in Decathlon for one of the DSs and they are currently outside throwing snowballs (although the snow has nearly gone now)

Kacie123 · 21/11/2015 17:48

Well done atticus!

I've realised that there's some stuff in our flat we are just hoarding (including some stuff from our place we've kept in case we need it), and have finally shoved the lot on eBay. Got rid of some of it already!

Ive got the Preppers Blueprint, I like it v much, although I am Hmm at the pandemic chapter. I'd ignore the guff about cider vinegar, and the amazing cure all Four Thieves recipe which is supposed to cure the Plague, and all manner of dreadful diseases, incl smallpox.

Kacie123 · 22/11/2015 09:16

Which version do you have Stratter? There seem to be a few!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/11/2015 17:01

I've got a very large Preppers Blueprint. It's a bit unwieldy to read in bed, which is where i do most of my reading, in general. I need to get a book sized book!

FuckTheseSixFishInParticular · 22/11/2015 17:26

I bought a snow shovel on offer and bunch of tins of food and bottles of drinking water. Also I got our camping gas cylinder refilled.

swisscheesetony · 22/11/2015 17:43

This bad boy has just been sliced and diced for the freezer. He'll feed my family for a week.

Stratter5 · 22/11/2015 17:53

Mine is a big paperback version, Prepper's Blueprint [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1496092589/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_feGuwb37YR5HS this]] one.

Stratter5 · 22/11/2015 17:55

Fucked up link

Kacie123 · 22/11/2015 18:42

Thanks Stratter will take a look Grin

Good lord Swiss that's huge!

FuckThese, I found my old snow shovel today, all neatly still in its new box from when we bought our first car. I long for the kind of snow where it would be remotely necessary because I love snow not because I love digging

swisscheesetony · 22/11/2015 18:51

Kacie - it was about 9lbs which isn't bad for a fish.

I found a snow shovel washed up on the beach last year - my neighbour found 5kg cannabis resin. You win some, you lose some. Wink

Kacie123 · 22/11/2015 20:04

Note to self, scour beaches more often Grin

atticusclaw2 · 22/11/2015 21:46

We've split a load more wood today. We had three large trees taken down this year and we're splitting it gradually. The house is completely log heated and so we get through a (smallish) trailer load a week. It is a never ending task. We do have a couple of years' supply though now and I am an expert log splitter (hydraulic splitter not muscle power thank goodness).

I also used up my useful ikea fleeces that I bought yesterday making new cushion covers. Not quite as useful in a SHTF scenario but make my tv room look pretty Grin

Oh and I stocked up on vitamins for the store since we'd run low. Now have a three month supply for everyone.

atticusclaw2 · 22/11/2015 21:52

For the avoidance off doubt I wasn't suggesting that cushion covers are even vaguely useful in an emergency scenario. I meant I had undone some of the prepping I did yesterday.

Stratter5 · 22/11/2015 21:56

Nothing ever gets washed up on our beaches. Nothing. Not even sea glass or driftwood :(

FuckTheseSixFishInParticular · 22/11/2015 23:01

I have now used my new snow shovel for clearing the wet autumn leaves off the bit where our bins are because the chickens had scratched them all over the place looking for bugs and it was slippy.

Money well spent already! Grin

zombiesarecoming · 23/11/2015 11:50

Just bought a generator capable of providing full standby power for the house, just need to wait for the pallet with it on to arrive later in the week and then get it wired in through a proper changeover switch and think about a suitable amount of red diesel storage and realistically how long we may need it for

Kacie123 · 23/11/2015 11:56

Whereabouts are you zombies? Do people in your area tend to have them?

OP posts:
Kacie123 · 23/11/2015 11:56

thinks about how hard it was to find extra space for a bug out bag

OP posts:
zombiesarecoming · 23/11/2015 12:09

East Yorks, no wouldn't have though many round here have one but over the last few years even though we theoretically aren't that remote we have had quite a lot of power outs lasting anywhere from half an hour to all day, realistically that length of power cut isn't a problem as we have camping cookers etc but they seem to be getting worse rather than better

As mentioned in an other thread no line clearance has been done round here for trees touching power lines for at least 2-3 years so I can only see things getting worse not better, hopefully I won't need it but I would rather have it and not need it than not have it and be without power for a week

Kacie123 · 23/11/2015 12:12

Ah I see. You get a lot of snow up there too don't you? Would you be ok with neighbours coming to charge up phones etc do you think? As I always imagine in a long power cut situation they could be quite noisy and not something you could keep secret!
