Hi

Has anyone read the above book and what do you think. The author lives in a remote cabin with only 1 propane stove. She has outdoor cooking facilities i.e. Fire.

Anyway the book is about sustainable living and has good reviews. Lots of old recipes and tips.

Quite keen to get it but thought I'd ask the preppers...

Why not download the sample? Then you can see if it includes canned goods, or just squirrel and nettle recipes!
I think it's American though, so be prepared for lots of ingredients not to be found in British shops or woodlands!

I'm thinking skinned opossum with creamed corn and grits.
I'm hoping there'll be little if that Grin

Ive got Sugar Smoke: How to preserve fruit, vegetables, meat and fish [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1845335643/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_sTBrwb3E84MAN this]] book, it's wonderful - has a recipe for preserving pretty much anything edible :)

I did download but only got the first pages so mainly spice mix..... So not much good as i could not get to the real nitty gritty of it...
It says it covers canning etc.
Grilled possum.. Um... Sounds lovely. .Grin that alone is a reason to buy it, surely ..

I have a lot of old cookbooks and the Americam ones seem to have cooked eg squirrel and possum as a standard sort of thing. (Along with the tuna casseroles and various 'jello' recipes.) Medieval British recipes seem a little sounder though for prepping purposes - largely no 'fancy' ingredients, just making the best of what you have.

*American

Sorry.

Having now actually read the description, it does sound as though it would be useful. It sounds as though it would describe how to make (what I would call) a Dutch Oven, etc, kind of pioneering type stuff.
Something like this one might also be useful.
