i had my son at 26weeks after going into prem labour. although, not quite sure what caused it. he is now 6 years old, but suffered many complications, due to his birth & a bleed on the brain, he has cerebral palsy & is wheelchair bound.
i am now pregnant again & am 25 weeks gone, so as you can imagine, i'm quite worried about having this one prematurely also.
doctors have been keeping a close eye on me this time round, having extra scans, tests, steroid injections etc.
just wondered if anyone knows if having a premature baby increases the risk of having another one, or whether i could go full term without any complications? has anyone else had a similar experience? & what was your outcome?

i had my boy at 33+6 and there was no reason found for it.it was awful sitting in the ward with all the other mums and babies bonding when all i could do was go up to special care and look at him through a plastic box with tubes and wires everywhere.he is 1 yr old now and doing grand. we are trying for another baby and im terrified it will happen again

Hi, I had DS1 at 31 weeks and now 12 weeks with #2. No reason for why DS1 was early but I was already 3 cm dilated at 25 weeks. They've told me that they don't think its incompetent cervix so no need for a stitch.

They've asked whether I want to do a medical trial, taking progesterone pessaries. I've taken them before and am convinced they give me UTIs, which itself can cause premature labour, but there is also some evidence that it can reduce the risk of premature labour. I really don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice?

Had dd 16 years ago at 31 weeks, placental abruption, lost 3, then had ds 10 years ago at 27 weeks, same reason :(

My daughter was delivered at 27 weeks after I developed pre-eclampsia, she was a tiny scrap at 1 lb 8oz, but doctors decided that it was too risky to do anything else. Shes 6 now, and was slightly late in reaching her major milestones, shes caught up now and is a regular 6 year old girl. She was diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum and can throw some epic tantrums, but we dont know whether this is down to her prematurity, or it would have happened regardless!
We were advised to think carefully about havin another child, as pre-eclampsia has a habit of rearing its ugly head more than once, so didnt plan anymore children, but we had a suprise baby in November 2009 (after only finding out we were expecting in July) and she arrived full term, weighed 8lbs and had no complications with the birth at all!

after having two prem boy's does anybody know what the chances are of me going full term with a baby girl? my boys were prem because of premature rupturing of the membranes. can anyone give me advise please.

I've recently had a prem baby and sadly he lost his battle after 10 days. I'm not thinking about another baby RIGHT now..... but clearly i'm thinking about the future and what might be in store. It's interesting to read ALL your experiences.

Quite a personal question, buti just wondered how long you left it after your prem babies before trying/ having another? Especially if there is anyone reading this that lost a baby but has then had another.......?

Hello all. My son was born at 30 weeks after my waters broke at 29 weeks. Im currently pregnant with baby no2 and am under close observation. I was told by my midwife and consultant that i would be more likely to have another pre'term baby because i have had already. That being said, there is every reason to believe i will carry to full term this time round. And the same goes to all you ladies. Think positive and i wish you all the luck in the world.

Hello chucklesjen

I know it has been a long time since your post. I was just wondering if you decided to have another baby and was it all ok.

I have just had a premature baby who was 28 weeks, the delivery was due to placenta abruption. Unfortunately the outcome wasn’t very good and my son passed away.

I just wanted to see if there was a success story for me to have another baby at a later date

Thank you xxx

Hi
After a really bad pregnancy due to PappA, Low blood flow from my placenta and the baby being small, I had a placenta abruption at 28 weeks and my son was born. I lost a lot of blood and had to have a transfusion, devastatingly my son passed away after 4 weeks as there was just to much to cope with for him.
I wanted some advise about having another baby. I am 41 and wanted to know whether this all would happen again or if I would have a chance at a healthy pregnancy/birth.

Any advise or people's stories would be welcome

Thank you xx

Hi,
I had my beautiful daughter at 27 weeks and told there was no reason and just one of those things.
We had a long run in neonatal but thankfully she finally came home and is a funny, chatty and bossy 20 month old little lady.
I'm ready for another baby and I would like her to have a little brother or sister quite similar in age.
No matter how much I want another child, I'm terrified of having another premature baby. I can't see one on the television or in the news without bursting into tears. I feel like its erratic as shes perfect and we are so lucky. However there was so many times when we were told we may loose her, I can't help it.
If I had to go through it again, I feel like I wouldn't be able to mentally cope.
Does anyone have any advice?
Ta
