anyone gone into preterm labour with bleeding?had my dd at 24wk 3days after 2 weeks of mild bleeding then lost her 11 days later after she caught NEC infection

i have seen my consultant they had no explanation the placenta was healthy baby was alive and weighed 1pnd 8ounce they said the placenta might not have been attchd properly that maybe why i had spotting at 12 and 19wks but there was no evidence of infection or abruption...or it could be my uterus just got p**d off with the bleeding and started contracting..

i am looking for someone whos been through somethng similar and what r the chances of having a normal pregnancy in future??

i have 1 daughter whos 2yrs and her pregnancy was a breeze she was born at 37wks but it was ok as classed fullterm

Hi Rumbly

I'm so sorry for your loss

I had intermittent bleeding (some very heavy) with DS2, and went into spontaneous labour at 30+5. He was in SCBU for 5 weeks and is now 7 months old and doing very well. The scans had shown no obvious problems with the placenta (apart from clots from the bleeds) but when the placenta came out it was clearly unhealthy.

The docs couldn't give me any explanation why it had happened or how likely it would happen again, but tbh I don't think we'll have a third child. They did think it was probably the bleeding that irritated the uterus enough to start the contractions though.

I have heard of people who've bled all the way through and still gone to term.

Sorry this isn't much help as I haven't had a subsequent pregnancy. I also had an OK pg with DS1 and he was full term.

I hope the docs can come up with an answer for you and your next pg is trouble-free. xxx

rumbly I am so sorry for the loss of your little girl.

I have had bleeding in both pregnancies (one dd born at 27+5 due to cervical issues, currently 29+3 with dc2) but it was probably a sideshow - as you say, bleeding in pregnancy is actually a lot more common than you'd think.

I would really recommend posting on www.blissmessageboard.org.uk as there are a good few people there with stories like yours.

It is also a good place to get some guidance from others about the care you should have if you decide you would like to try again. There is a lot that I wouldn't have known to ask for, one thing being a follow-up gynae appointment to discuss my first pregnancy. Because I had lots of little clots on the placenta and had bleeding, I was checked for antiphospholid (sticky blood or Hughes syndrome) - I didn't have it, but it allowed them to completely discount placental issues in my case.

Wishing you the very best,
