Hi,

My 3rd baby was born at 32 weeks and 3 days... she is now just under 2 weeks corrected even though shes 9 weeks old in reality. She is v v sleepy, is awake for a few hours of the day but im concerned if she should be meeting milestones of other 9 week olds or if we should be considering her 2 weeks old if that makes sense??

Any advice welcome...

My premie (also had IUGR so very small) was extremely sleepy up until his due date and then had another four weeks of newborn sleepiness that was similar to the first month of his full-term big sister. As long as she eats enough and is gaining weight I wouldn`t worry too much. Mine was behind on everything until 14 months and since then he´s been way ahead.

When my baby was born at 34+6 I was told to focus on his adjusted/corrected age up until age 2 (although I’ve found I’ve not really thought about it since he hit the12month mark)
He was also very sleepy for the first 8 weeks of his life - I remember my mum telling me off for never sending photos with his eyes open 😂

You should use your baby's corrected age - so you should be considering her 2 weeks old now. Perfectly normal for her to be very sleepy!

Are you happy they are eating enough? Keep an eye on that. Xxxx

My baby was born at 31 weeks , you go on there corrected age, so she would be 2 weeks . Mine also slept a lot.

He's 13 months now and has caught up!

Congratulations @Laura22023Flowers

Is LO following their centiles?

Definitely corrected age of 2 weeks! Corrected age lasts for 2 years.

Corrected. Dts were 31 weekers. I had to wake them to feed them.

Hi, my youngest (now 4) was born at 31+3. You should consider her as being just under 2 weeks - she's supposed to be meeting corrected age milestones, not those of her actually birth date. And that's until baby is 2 years old.

My 31 weeker was also still really sleepy when she was 2 months old cause using corrected age she would have still been a newborn xx

Corrected age until they are 2.

My DD was only 4 weeks early, but she was sleepy for the 1st month of her life. We were on a feeding plan so had to wake her every 3 hours to feed. She would sometimes feed asleep. Then just after her due date woke up with a bang thanks to colic (it was a shock!)

My son was only just born at term, I was called in for induction at 36+6 and he was born at 37+1. He slept for 23h a day until he reached the equivalent of 40 weeks with awake windows of about 10 minutes. It took until 6-8 weeks (3-5 weeks if born at 40 weeks) until he could do more like 30 minutes awake at a time. He was about 4 months before people saw him out of the house awake as he went to sleep as soon as he was put in the sling/pram/car seat. He sleeps at the high end of normal which feels quite odd as my daughter has always slept for the shortest normal amount.

Even at early term we noticed that in the first month or two he was meeting milestones at an "adjusted" age (I know they don't adjust after 37 weeks). He is 6 months now and since 2.5-3 months he has met milestones with his birth age.

For premature babies, the advice is to use adjusted age to track development and growth until they’re 2 years old. My baby was born at 33 + 5 days and for at least 8 weeks after he was born he was also very sleepy. Now, he’s 9 months actual and meeting his milestones in track with his adjusted age
