Bottle teats for little babies

Has anyone got any recommendations for bottle teats for little babies? DD has come 4 weeks early and is weighing in at 5lbs 13oz. I’m struggling to find a bottle/teat combo that works. We were feeding disposables in hospital with the yellow Nuk teats but looking for something we can use at home and sterilise. She’s just so small the normal Nuk teats seem to be too big for her mouth!

I’ve had a look online but can’t really see what I need. I’m not set on any brand just want something she’s comfortable with and wondered if anyone had a recommendation please.

Congratulations! DD1 was 5lbs 12oz (although she was only a couple of weeks early). We were combi feeding but we bought the nuk bottles and then used these teats to start with. https://www.amazon.co.uk/NUK-Choice-Bottle-Silicone-Anti-Colic/dp/B0CFX7892W/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=26HD1FV8IZEBM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.gYJOdWnVvWsDODrk5poFY1oBaHcOfQH7xjABXDaugMiLMoxtr0mDr0Nrouw6T_ig-JuAVcjYUvBOKHizDm6gXrLmMRwhAqgkWDgSVJ60TWuIE67ueJJOXxeP08NzYfzmCpRvUsRRWeo2hE4cXaLCy8lqyiXdQB0uBZvxrMyxj1V3m4VAWlxc-k2ia6sxQiPhNU_wz_EZST1Liv0nokAMwA.qbdLnql7GyND0W34QqlRRKFjG5MpjwtanK0_vsawttI&dib_tag=se&keywords=nuk+premature+baby+teats&qid=1757362182&sprefix=nuk+prem%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-9 DD1 got on with them quite well.

The other thing we did was replicate how we had been feeding in the hospital.
So we used these disposable teats which we bought in a box of like 100 or something - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B59P42BD/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWw&aref=N2VfJ7Up3d&sp_cr=ZAZ
On top of a sterifeed bottle - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sterifeed-Bottle-Disposable-Sterile-130ml/dp/B0B1QRXVD4/ref=pd_aw_sim_hxwPER_sspa_mw_detail_m_sccl_3/262-3265353-2307862?pd_rd_w=MxAM5&content-id=amzn1.sym.c4b5af8c-7181-49d9-a6ab-2b8ed0b085a0&pf_rd_p=c4b5af8c-7181-49d9-a6ab-2b8ed0b085a0&pf_rd_r=QJVYGGVR9W7J8JC1WF98&pd_rd_wg=dlqAW&pd_rd_r=e974c9ad-9c37-4965-8826-ee4568f1135c&pd_rd_i=B0B1QRXVD4&psc=1

You have to check the sizing though as some of the bottles don't have the same size neck.

But in reality, she very quickly got used to the Nuk teats in my first link.

Dr Brown do prem sized teats which could be an option to investigate as well, but we never really got on with Dr Brown bottles.

The Dr Brown prem teats are quite hard. I wouldn't recommend. I find that a lot of prem babies feed well on MAM teats. Size 0, or 1. The flow rate is similar

woodclover · 08/09/2025 21:25

Congratulations!! Same weight and gestation as my LO!

We used the Tommee Tippee bottles to start with, the MAM teats were just too big for his mouth! He didn’t feed perfectly, but it was enough to get milk into him and gain weight at least.

He was readmitted for Jaundice treatment so we used the preemie teats at the hospital as I was expressing and they fit the Sterifeed bottles and it was the best he had ever fed! PP above has linked the same ones the hospital uses, but I have also heard that the cheap narrow neck bottles from supermarkets are a decent alternative to the preemie hospital ones.

Thank you. I’ve got the Nuk silicone ones on the link above and they’re too big and too hard for her. She’s so sleepy at the minute we’re really struggling to keep her awake for long enough to have a proper feed so anything she’s got to work at seems to be a no for now!

Those sterifeed ones look great with a disposable teat but I just can’t afford that for the next few weeks on 3 hourly feeds

How is her weight gain doing? Have you been told about all the tips to get her feeding? Tickling her feet, mid feed nappy changes, stripping her clothes off to feed etc? DD1 dropped to 0.4th centile and we were actually on 2hrly feeds at one point, which was very challenging. If she still isnt feeding well, please get urgent advice from your midwife or HV. I know from experience that things can take a downhill turn very quickly in small babies and the healthcare professionals can watch her feed and give you advice as well.

Had this exact issue with my little one who was born at 35 weeks earlier this year. The hospital gave me a few of the yellow teats while we were still in and I ended up having to sterilising them in Milton and using with the Sterifeed bottles which I also put in the Milton as I couldn’t find the same ones to buy online. I tried various teats (reuseable and disposable) but for those first few weeks, baby didn’t manage to feed from anything else. I spoke to the HV about it and she didn’t have any other suggestion so I just used those until baby was stronger.

Our little man was born at 26 weeks so went through whole feed journey and countless bottles… the long thin cheap supermarket own very thin teats. Nicu recommend them

She’s ok for now, midwife saw her today and was happy with her so hopefully that continues! Will have a look at supermarket teats and I hadn’t thought of Milton so thank you 😊
