Premature Twins

Hi all!
Recently gave birth to identical twins boys born at 34 weeks.

1 twin is in NICU with an infection (E-Coli) which is worrying.

We have just come home with the other twin who now seems to have a stuffy nose. He is making noises in his sleep. Again we are worried.

Any help and advise on both situations is appreciated.

Just for some reassurance my tiny 35w twins are now the tallest girls in their class and start secondary school next month. Whilst they haven't had the smoothest start and there have been challenges along the way - generally "normal" premie stuff like issues feeding, slightly later milestones, chest infections etc life is about a million times easier than when I came home from scbu with 2 little babies.
My main advice would be be kind to yourself and accept any help that people give you and congratulations twins are amazing.

If you’re worried about your newborn(s) esp if they are ex premmies, you need to arrange for medical review (either via your newborn unit team/paediatricians, or your GP) - wouldn’t be good to take advice from the internet about any sickness in babies this small.
Babies making noises in their sleep can be totally normal but we won’t be able to comment properly here and I wouldn’t want to falsely reassure you if there is actually a problem!! Do you have an experienced grandparent or someone who can help you esp with trying to see what is normal and not?

they’ll be fine and things will settle down for you in due course, you’ll get more confident in judging what is and isn’t normal.

congratulations on your babies and I hope your other twin is home with you soon x

No real advice, just reassurance. My 30 weeker dts are now healthy (argumentative stroppy) teenagers. Take as much help as possible and look after you x

How are you all now @Coolcam?

I’d agree with this. I also had preemie twins and was told they are always happy to take a look at them. I can’t remember the exact wording they used but essentially they are they are very risk averse with such tiny ones and even if stats are ok they’d trust my mothers instincts and admit for monitoring.
