Baby Clothes

My baby son was born 3 months premature and thankfully we are both now home for Christmas. I received a parcel of baby clothing from my grandparents. When I phoned to thank them for the gift, my grandparents said the baby clothes were a gift, but also a ‘loan’ as they want all the baby clothing returned to them when my son outgrows the clothes, so they can give them back to the shop they came from. This has upset me, as they have put terms and conditions on a ‘gift’ to my child. I have tried speaking to them and also my parents have spoken to them, but they are adamant they want the baby clothes back to return to the shop. I feel they are being unreasonable and feel I should just return the baby clothing ‘gift’ without using them. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

How are they going to return used clothes?

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 23/12/2024 18:25

They are bat shit, they can’t return used clothes. But if they’re this bloody minded returning the clothes unworn is probably the best decision.

Congratulations on being your son home.

That does sound strange, have they said why this matters to them? Congratulations on having your baby home with you for Christmas Flowers

Have they bought the clothes or are they using one of the rental companies? Surely they can’t have bought them & expect to return?!?

Congrats!
I'd return them now in all the packaging and explain that they weren't a gift at all, but a loan. If they are so adamant about returning them, surely its best they return them new and not used. Are they normally this batshittery with other things? What if you returned them used with stains on- what would they do with them then? 😕

Thank you 😊

The baby clothing is not in any shop packaging, I assume the clothing has come from a charity shop.

This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. As above, I wonder if they’re using a rental company where the expectation is that things are returned (I guess things from there would appear as if from a charity shop, ie no labels or tags, though I’d expect them to be in excellent condition). But they should have explained this!! Nothing else makes sense surely?!

I am unsure why they are being unreasonable. I told them if they want the baby clothes to be donated after my son has used them, I would donate them to my local hospital baby unit for other parents to make use of. They refused this suggestion and said all baby clothing had to be returned to them!

I'm sorry that they are being so utterly odd.

Like another poster said I'd just return them to your DGPs now. I would be worried about every stain and poonami when they were wearing them.
