Can they do anything for next pregnancy?

Hello!

I have had two premature babies. One who is nearly 13, I had him at 28 weeks. And one who is 3 who tried to come at 29 weeks but managed to stay put until 34 weeks.

Both were spontaneous labours. My eldest was a quick vaginal delivery and my youngest was an emergency caesarean due to her being breech.

My husband (father of my youngest) and I have spoken about maybe having another. But I am worried about having another premature baby.

My pregnancy with my youngest was consultant led, I had some scans on the cervix every two weeks up until 24 weeks pregnant. I pushed for progesterone suppositories too which they did prescribe in the end.

I told the midwives that my cervix shortened and dilated extremely quick with my son, and just to be wary; they didn’t listen and it happened! Rushed off to theatre for my c section.

I’m unsure if there’s anything they can do if we were to try again? Before we even start to try, could we speak to someone about this? They wouldn’t put a stitch in for my last pregnancy- they said my length was fine in the scans.

Thank you! And merry Christmas!

I honestly don't know but hopefully someone will be along soon Flowers

I would ask your GP to refer you to gynaecology. I guess it depends whether they can figure out why it happened.

Yes they absolutely can.

I lost my a baby girl at 5 months because of this and my subsequent successful pregnancy my cervix had fully opened and funnelled at 22w 5 days. An emergency cervical stitch (they had a few mm to work with) held for 2 weeks and I went into spontaneous labour at 24w5days.

Having sought advice post pregnancy I was strongly advised to have a trans abdominal cerclage (TAC) placed. I did and am currently 30 weeks. I am being monitored weekly.

You can ask your gP to refer you for pregnancy counselling and / or contact the secretary of the consultant you were under to arrange this. They can talk you through your options, I did this and it was really helpful (different issues though).
