Firstly I do apologise if this has been posted in the section, am new to all of this.
Looking for some advice or reassurance really.

My wife and I had our first child in September 2023 three weeks early and apart from the normal prem issues both mum and baby were all ok.

One thing we are struggling with is weight gain, baby is gaining weight but at very slow speed, baby is just over 3 months old and currently 9lbs 14oz. They feed well and very rarely do we get any spit up etc, all we have noticed is that they can't seem to drink the amount of milk recommended. (Bottle fed)

Has anyone else had a similar experience with slow weight gain and is there anything we can do or just let nature take it's course.

Thanks in advance

As long as the weight is going up, look at the chart in the baby book, that is good. But your baby will be lower given they are preemie. You may need to feed more often if not taking enough. I would discuss with health visitor.

Talk to your HV. 37 weeks isn’t classed as premature, and when mine was born at 37 weeks this April I was told to expect everything to be normal. They do sound quite small, so I’d be checking in with a pro.

Hi yeah the prem bit is misleading, baby classed as prem when in labour but on the charts classed as not prem has to be 4 weeks or more. Baby reaching all milestones just struggling with the weight apart from that happy and content. They were weighed against today and HV didn't say anything we just have to keep going back to have them weighed each week.

Thanks for your reply, the feeding more options unfortunately doesn't work, we tried this and we have only just managed to get them 150ml bottles and even this is a struggle sometimes. HV and DR are aware they don't seem to be concerned (after checkups) as milestones are being reached and weight is not being lost. I'm just hoping they find there appetite as don't want it to affect there development.

Are you feeding in a schedule @Milkplease or on demand?

Sorry for the late reply, originally scheduled but was advised to go on demand by the HV.

How are things going now that you are demanding feeding?

Demand or response feeding although it can feel like demanding!
