Cervical cerclage success rate

Hi

I had an emergency cerclage put in just before 21 weeks. At the scan my cervical length was showing .08cm but on the operating table it was 2cm. The doctors seemed happy about that and told me my chances of carrying to and past 24 weeks are better now whereas before it was very grim. I'm taking progesterone as well.

So I'm trying to stay positive. They didn't put me on bed rest but told me not to lift anything heavy like moving furniture. I have a 2.5 Yr old and he has been clingy and I had to pick him up or carrying him for a short time. This is worrying me. I have my follow up scan in a few days to know if the stitch is healing well.

Can anyone share their experience of having cerclage at 2cm at similar gestation age and having a toddler? Even though I'm on not bed rest I feel like I should be but with a toddler that's just impossible. Thoughts please
Ideally if I can't carry to full term then I'd like to be able to do it until 36 weeks when they take the stitch out.

Hi there
So sorry you haven't had much response to this. Hopefully this will bump it.
I suffer with incompetent cervix and unfortunately in my first pregnancy I was too far dilated for a stitch to be placed.
I then had a pre pregnancy stitch and I carried twins to 34 weeks.
There are lots of women out there and specialist Facebook groups with women who have had similar situations to you and have successfully brought a baby home.
The stitch has great success rates but try and take it easy, avoid baths (due to risk of infections), stay hydrated and take the progesterone.
I'm not sure where in the country you are but Tommys have a specialist pre term surveillance clinic in London and they were a great source of support to me throughout my pregnancy and kept an eye on my cervix until 26 weeks.
Wishing you lots of luck xx

I don't have a toddler so can't help on that bit but I had a cerclage at 23 weeks with less than 2cm (I think it was about 1.4cm). I just avoided walking for longer than 45 mins at a time, but I still did yoga 3 times per week.

My waters broke exactly one week after I had the stitch out and all was totally fine with DS.

@Mufflette thank you for responding. This is all very uplifting. Had my follow up scan and the cervix now measures 2.3cm. So the stitch is working 🙏

Hello, may I ask how you are getting on? I'm in a similar situation and had mine fitted on Monday. X

I had mine fitted at 16 weeks, and had a post stitch length of 1.6. I'm told this is good! I am 29 weeks on Saturday, so it's working 💪 xxx

My sister had a cerclage at 14 weeks. She ended up delivering at 30 weeks as she had preeclampsia. Her daughter is now 6, no medical problems and bright as a button. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy.
