33 weeks preterm labour

Hi guys.

This is my first baby I'm 29 years old. I am 33 weeks today.

It's currently Monday night and I've been in hospital since Saturday night.

I had mild period pains Saturday night which turned into painful contractions. I drove in with my partner and i tested positive for the labour hormone.

I get contractions around every 10 minutes with some very intense and crazy painful ones every hour. I sometimes have urges to push

My waters have broken and I'm constantly being monitored with baby. She's had a few dips which we were rushed to delivery room however we always end up back in our hospital room. They don't really want me to go home and to be honest I can't walk through my contractions or the pain. So I'm okay being monitored

The hospital are pleased she's still in there and so am I but I'm beginning to grow increasingly exhausted as it's 80 hours of pre term labour, endless vomiting, minimal sleep, endless worry and painful contractions.

If anyone has any positive story's please let me know- this seems never ending!

You're in the best place, they'll be monitoring you and the baby. I know it's stressful but try to rest. If the baby does come early you'll both be in good hands.

I had my DD at 33+1 weeks.

My experience was very different to yours, with an extremely rapid and comparatively non-painful labour (only just made it to delivery room), so I'm just here to tell you that IF your DD was born in the next few days, chances are she will be absolutely fine in the long run. Care of preemies these days is so advanced and she will be looked after so well.

Let me know if you would like more details about our experience in NICU and SCBU, I'm happy to share.

Have they given you anything, e.g. steroids for baby's lungs, anything to try and stop the contractions? Since your waters have broken I expect they will want you in until DD's born as it's an infection risk otherwise.

Have you had steriods as pp asked?

I had my ds at 32 weeks, he's 21 and over 6ft now.

My 33-weeker is taller than me now and has just turned 19. And she arrived very fast without time for the steroid injection to mature the lungs to work. You are in the best place OP and they will be keeping a close eye on you and the baby. Although clearly it's much better that the baby stays in as long as possible, I can well imagine that you are knackered if it's been 80 hours!

Chin up - sounds like your baby will be here soon, and hopefully won't be in SCBU/NICU for too long (DD was in for 3 weeks). Have they given you a tour of the SCBU so you know what to expect?
