Early onset preeclampsia - impending delivery

Not really sure what this post is for. I'm just the most frightened I've ever been in my life.

I'm 26 weeks pregnant today and in hospital for monitoring until they decide we can't wait any longer to deliver our baby. The baby's growth is restricted due to the failing placenta so there really isn't another option, but they don't need to deliver immediately (although will most certainly be today or in the next few days).

Just really not feeling ready - my husband and parents have been amazing but were not in a place to talk to friends about it right now, which is why I decided to name change.

Some positive experiences of those who have had very early premature babies would be very helpful for me. I understand not all outcomes could be positive.

Big congratulations! so good to hear you and your baby are well. Would like to offer some reassurance as I've been where you are now. My little one was born at 28 weeks and only a little bit heavier than your boy. Luckily, we were both ok with no long-term health issues. Baby is now a beautiful, clever, strong child at primary school. At the time it all feels so overwhelming, burdened with worry, so much to think about. But you will have an amazing team around you, please talk to them, they are not there just for you baby but also for you. Take it day to day. It will pass. You will take him home before you know it. You are stronger than you think and you are now not just a mum but a supermum.

@VividGemini congratulations! Keep us posted, I'll be thinking about you. 2lbs is a decent weight for his age, good boy.

Lovely news!!! Congratulations and thanks for the update. Best wishes to all of you.

How has your week been @VividGemini? Hope you're enjoying getting to know your little chap and recovering from the shock of it all a bit.

@NotMaryWhitehouse

Thanks for coming back! We've had a rollercoaster of a week, including bowel surgery yesterday, but our little boy is looking stable and hopefully the NICU will attempt to get him off a ventilator in the next couple of days so he can breathe on his own.

I really can't describe it as anything other than a rollercoaster, and my husband and I are exhausted, but we are getting used to it now and trying to start a bit of a routine. Our little boy is so loved and cared for by so many people, it's overwhelming 💙

That does sound stressful Thanks

Oh congratulations! That's actually a great weight. Dts were 31 weekers, one was 2.6 and the other 3lb.

Make sure you look after yourself too. Eat properly, rest, go home when you want to to recharge a bit. It's a long old haul but wishing you all the best.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 20/05/2021 17:39

Gosh what an absolute little super champ he is! Brilliant to hear.

Rollercoaster is exactly the word for it.

I bought a couple of prem books when my son was born, happy to pass them on if you'd like them, just send me a DM. I like having facts in front of me about what's happening and why 🤪

Sounds like you and your husband have a lot of support, let people do as much for you as they offering, you will be running on empty, I know I was was!

Congrats on the new arrival. A long road ahead, and many challenging times, but hopefully he will continue to amaze you with his strength and determination FlowersStar
