Hi there so I’m due my 4th baby in a few weeks - he will be arriving early due to being a type 1 diabetic so I’m scheduled for a planned c section. They are hoping I can have a c section at 37-38 weeks - now with all other baby’s I’ve had to have steroid injections (to help with baby lungs as delivered before full term) every time I’ve had to stop over night in hospital for 2 days for my sugars to be monitored - they’ve always been good never spiked and never been on a drip - I asked my consultant if this time round I was ok to not stop overnight as with Covid etc I’m not overly keen and as my sugars have been ok (also they were never monitored overnight by staff etc last time so I could of done this at home without using up a hospital bed) and her reply was if you don’t stop overnight you can’t have the steroids!?? Just curious if any other type 1s have been allowed home? I’m happy to stop in during the day whilst the baby is monitored and to make sure my sugars are ok but I just feel stopping over for 2 nights is pointless as this is my 4th time having them now - of course no judgement I’m just looking for anyone who has been through the same I’m of course happy to have the steroids for baby’s lungs I would never risk the health of my baby 👶🏻

Not diabetic so don't know if it's the same but ds was going to be delivered at 37 weeks due to a few issues. They got community midwife to give me the steroid injection and ds arrived two days before planned hospital date. Never spent a night in hospital in the end and he was born in village hospital and then home within hours.

Thank you for your reply - Ah see this makes so much sense - i also have a dexcom in my arm that constantly reads my sugars which the hospital monitor so again no need to be in hospital! I’m sticking to my guns 😂😂 you would think they wouldn’t want me using a bed for 2 nights either. I probably sound really annoying and awkward to the consultants but I think it’s valid for me to argue I dont need to be in hospital for 2 overnight stays 😖

Maybe it's because they have to be done 12 hours apart so for most people not practical to go and then come back in the required timescales

Yeah I thought this aswell but no at my hospital Any time I’ve had them before it was 24 Hours after the 1st one for the next one not 12
