At 4 months actual what was your 35 weeker able to do? We’re they reaching for toys or giggling at this point?

Nope. Giggling and reaching for toys came around 5-5.5month actual. At 4 months actual she was getting better at tummy time and lots of smiles but hadn't found her hands at that point and she was technically only about 11weekd corrected.

Hi there!

My 35 weeker is 5 months corrected now - she is pretty good at reaching for things now but it seems to have come more recently. I am however now worried that she is nowhere near rolling, when everyone else’s babies the same age and younger seem to be. It’s so hard!

DS was born at 34.5. 4lb. In NICU for 3 weeks.

I can't remember if I am honest what he was doing at four months. I do remember he was always just a bit behind his full term peers, for about 18-24 months. Not significantly so, but he was never the first to do anything in his group of about 8. He was often sort of 5/6/7/8.

Once he hit two he sort of seemed to level out. He is still often late to do things, though when he does them, he does them perfectly. It's like he watches for ages, wants to get it right, then wham- does it.

Eg he is 4.5 now. I was getting worried because he wasn't writing his name, etc. All of a sudden- yup, he writes it on everything, can recognise his numbers, and just sort of "gets it".

So I wouldn't worry. Kids are all so different even when they are full term. You will know if there is something significantly amiss, though it's unlikely to be just because he is a premie. So try not to worry.

My 33-weeker has just turned 4 months actual. She is very smiley and quite talkative (coos a lot) but no giggles yet. She reaches out to touch toys but doesn't grasp unless you put them in her hand, and that is hit or miss.

She can also hold her head up both when held and during tummy time. She's at that stage with tummy time where she can either get up to her elbows and look up, or get up on her knees and stick her bum in the air, but not both at the same time, so it's quite funny to watch. Her latest thing is that she's discovered various parts of her head/face, so she's always reaching up there like "wow, ears!"

It sometimes looks like she's trying to roll when lying in her back as she sort of digs one heel into the ground and pushes so that her hips start to rotate, but honestly I think this is random kicking more than a deliberate attempt.

I always try go from her adjusted age rather than actual age; keeps the worry at bay.

Always go on the adjusted age, you'll drive yourself mad otherwise. DTs were 31 weekers, they hit all milestones at adjusted rather than actual.

I drove myself mad with anxiety about CP and all sorts, they do generally get there.

My 34 week premie was in the nicu 18 days and had breathing issues/was slow to feed. She was born at under 5lbs. I honestly don’t remember 4 months but I think she was a little behind till 6 months then just took off. She met/beat all the regular milestones. I thought she was behind with talking, but now she is 2, she’s so clear, communicates well, her daycare comments on how she fits much better with the class the year above. Don’t worry too much about this stage, I remember my dr telling us they almost all completely catch up by 2, but usually earlier,

My youngest was born at 34+4 and he's 10 months now so he's like 8 1/2 months corrected. I found that he was still very much like a newborn at 4 months, still in newborn clothes, quite floppy, although he did smile at 8 weeks. But as soon as he reached 6 months he seems to have accelerated and he's about the same at other babies his age. He's still on the smaller side, but a healthy weight. He sat up about 2 months ago, he's now crawling, kneeling, babbling, using pincher grip, eating solid foods, into everything! He still can't pull himself up but he can stand with support. He's actually probably the same as other 10 month olds now.
