Hey all

My first Dd was born at 35 weeks.

What are your experiences with following pregnancies also being pre-term?

Having a little anxiety about the future...

Statistically you are likely to go longer for a second pregnancy. Especially if pprom or pre-eclampsia.

I have two friends from nicu days who had another. One had dc1at 30, dc2at 37. The other was dc1at 27 dc2 at 38. Met a mum in nicu who had three prem but each one a bit later.

How far along are you atm?

Hey @peajotter thanks for taking time to reply. That info is good to know. We're still trying atm. I'm in my tww. It's just playing on my mind for some reason.

I think it may depend on the reason for the prematurity (if you know). I had DD1 at 30 weeks, DS at 34 weeks then a big gap and DD2 at 32 weeks. 2nd and 3rd pregnancies were difficult, and was expecting to go further with the 3rd but was evident from about 28 weeks that was unlikely. Had to take it really easy, which was difficult to be honest! Good luck...,

DS1 was overdue at 41+4. Second child was born at 35+2, 24 hours after waters broke.

Third child I had a feeling was going to be prem too. I was right, waters went at 31+5 and he hung on for 13 days before emerging at 33+4.

I have been wondering this myself. I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with my second child, my first having been born at 35 weeks. I am worried about it happening again but even more worried about this baby arriving sooner. I could just about cope with another 35 weeker, I think, but any earlier I'm not sure I have the strength.

peakotter · 14/09/2020 14:55

Hi @aureliacecilia , the risks are low. According to this paper www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3500643/#!po=0.268817
parents who have one at 32-36 weeks have an 85% chance of going to beyond 35 weeks with their next pregnancy.

If you do go earlier you will find the strength somehow. Ive seen so many parents go through it, it’s tough but you will cope. Praying baby stays in for you though!

Prom with ds, born via induction at 34+5...dd cooked 3 days longer born 35+1. I have a womb deformity though which may be the cause of my undercooked children!

GreenPlum · 26/09/2020 04:37

1st - Waters broke at 32 weeks. Didn't go into labour. Induced at 33 weeks.

2nd - Waters broke at 40 weeks. Didn't go into labour. Induced.

my 1st was overdue by 3 days (thought the world was ending, how could bubs be late :) )
my 2nd & 4th pregnancies both were preemie births at 32 weeks (waters broke for both but slow onset of labour & other complications so born by cs a few days later for each)
my 3rd pregnancy ended at 26 weeks with a stillbirth

I cannot remember the name of the procedure but I had a cervical suture for my 4th pregnancy & waters still ruptured at 32 weeks, so had to hurry along to hospital to get the stitch removed.

My Drs told me that if I had wished to have another child it would probably mean I would have to be on extended bed rest or similar to avoid another pre-term. We decided then our family was complete Smile

I’ve been worried about this too. First was born at 33 weeks, I’m now 30 weeks with my 2nd. Such a relief to get into the 30s at least, but I just have a feeling this one will be early too. Thanks for all the feedback, good to know most people go a bit longer second time.

DC1 was 34+0, DC2 was 36+6. Both PPROM followed immediately but contractions (no induction). I took things a lot easier towards the later part of DC2 pregnancy (used annual leave to reduce work hours) which I think may have helped.
