Cervical stitch experiences

I'm 17 weeks and a cervical length scan today showed 24mm, a reduction from 25.9mm at week 13. I have a uterine abnormality which increases risk of pre term labour hence why they have been watching. I'm having the stitch put in on Monday and am on progesterone pessaries too.
I'm really anxious about both the procedure and the risk to the baby within that, and about the pregnancy going forward. It's my first baby and it took a while to conceive also due to my abnormality and I'm so scared I'll lose the baby before it's viable on its own that I feel like I'm basically giving the pregnancy up for lost now. I can't enjoy being pregnant and will be worrying until birth assuming I get that far.
Does anyone have any positive experiences of having the stitch put in and carrying at least past 26 weeks? I feel like I could use a bit of perspective here rather than just drowning in anxiety!

My friend had a stitch put in at 18 weeks. She held off until 28 weeks when she was admitted to hospital. They managed to keep her in and stop labour until 30 weeks. Baby spent 5 weeks in scbu and is now a healthy 10 year old!

@esmerelda1988 Hi! I have a positive story to share. At my 20 week scan last summer the sonographer saw my cervix had started to dilate to approx 2.5cm and I was admitted to hospital then and there for an emergency stitch. I was just on the cusp of being able to have the op due to the dilation and the fact that my waters were bulging - I was told the risks of infection were extremely high and basically to expect the worst. They managed to put the stitch in without breaking my waters and I was put on modified bed rest, also taking progesterone pessaries twice a day. I was sent home but readmitted to hospital for two weeks between 24-26 weeks due to my cervical length being pretty much non existent. I was eventually discharged back home on more modified bed rest..... cue a lot of lying around watching Netflix etc etc. And trying my hardest not to stress although I did google risks far too much. At 35 weeks +4 days my waters went and I was back in hospital getting the stitch removed (try not to have this done whilst in labour I don't recommend it Grin) and gave birth to a healthy baby boy of 6pounds exactly. We were in hospital for a week as he had jaundiced but otherwise perfect. I think because they caught your cervix short but not open your odds are much better. Try not to worry and just take each day as it comes. All the best xxx

Hi @mitzi2019 thank you for telling me your experience, really positive you went to 35 weeks. I actually didn't have the stitch put in yet, when I went in for the op on Monday the consultant gave me the option of waiting and seeing for another week, taking the progesterone and having a rescan next Wednesday. Such a tough decision, hoping I made the right call. I think if it's shorter still I'll have to go ahead though.
Thank you again Flowers
