Places to buy premie clothes?

Hi,

I have my c section scheduled for next Thursday. I am having twins and will be 34 weeks exactly. They are being delivered early due to placenta issues and restricted growth.

At their last growth scan the week before last they were 3.1 and 2.6 respectively.

I need to buy premie clothes (although hospital haven’t told me exactly what yet) Where are the best places online that won’t break the bank. The sites Ive found so far are like a tenner for a sleep suit!

It’s all very stressful. Hospital have told me they’ll talk me through what I need next Tuesday, which is cutting it really fine!Sad

They don’t really wear clothes in nicu. Once they need clothes (out of the incubator) they will probably provide. Worth using them as hospital will also launder them so one less thing to do. I later donated all our out grown prem stuff back to the scbu. We got tiny baby size from mothercare mostly. My mum and DH went out to buy it. John Lewis and M&S and I think next too do next day delivery to a store if you order by a certain time, we did this I think with crib which we collected on the way home from hospital!

Size 0 nappies are widely available. The pampers ones are softer than boots own, but they performed the same. Again, nicu will provide, at least initially.

@bonzo. I’ve been told the hospital don’t provide anything except cotton wool. I have to provide all nappies, clothes etc. Hence my current state of panic!

I’ve been stocking up on nappies already, so that’s somethingSmile I’m buying the Asda 2-5lb baby ones.

@spugzbunny Good call about the vouchers. I don’t think I can use mine online eitherSad Which is wonderful as there’s no M&S near us and we don’t have a car atm. Argh!

Mine was an unexpected premmie we got sleep suits from Asda and used Pampers micro nappies as they fitted the best again Asda usually have them on offer. He was in a nappy however to start with due to monitoring I think this was for 5 days. Good luck OP Thanks

Definitely Asda. DS was 3.14 and started on their 3lb range. The vests and suits (without feet as it's better in nicu) pop all the way down the side which makes it easier to dress in an incubator and also less chance of pulling tubes as you're not putting anything over the head.

Other people have already mentioned it, but I really recommend www.little-mouse.co.uk

Set up by a NICU nurse, they have lots of specialist clothing for babies that are in intensive care or specialist care, with sizes starting at 1lb. They get 5 star reviews on Trustpilot.

It's true, the smallest babies in the NICU don't wear a lot, but dressing them in a little vest is so nice, and specialist mittens are proven to stop them pulling on tubes and wires. And once they can come out for cuddles it is so important to keep them warm in clothes that fit properly.

I hope this helps.

As you said, our DD was in a nappy in the incubator to start off with (pampers micro) then when she got into clothing we found Tesco, M&S, next and mothercare to be the best. (I believe mothercare is free express delivery if you only order premie stuff, they also have Velcro sleeves etc which is great if baby still has a cannula in!)

You will find a lot of family will help you out though. So maybe get a feeble bits and make it known to a few people you don’t have much!

We now have a box full of clothes DD has grown out of, storing ‘just in case’ we have similar problems when we decide to give her a sibling (I don’t think my nerves could cope!)

Ooo just a thought! DD was given a crocheted octopus to play with to keep her off her tubes! See if your hospital provide them, if not I’m sure I’ve seen them on Etsy. It stopped DD pulling out her cannula and feeding tube (she’s a little fidget) www.google.co.uk/amp/www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/14913656.amp/

Best of luck! NICU babies are amazing 😍

The smallest prem clothes I found for my DS was from M&S. slightly more expensive than supermarkets but the best fit when we bought him home

Laalmiss3 · 02/02/2019 23:27

Just found this thread. I had the same when my baby was born 3lb 6 oz. I hope you and your babies are doing well x

I had mine at 35 weeks, both just over 4lbs. Boots had some lovely stuff.

But don't Buy too much teeny stuff. you won't need proper clothes for a while yet, especially if they're in SCBU. I found we got most wear out of the newborn size, because is was a couple of months before they grew out of them. It doesn't really matter if the sleepsuit and vest is a bit big.

Also longer term, mine were delivered early around concerns of failure to grow of the smaller one. He was 4lb and in SCBU for a week. All 6ft4 of him is currently downstairs ploughing his way through the contents of the fridge.
