if you were born prematurely, did you have a prem baby yourself?

I was born at 32 weeks, no apparent complications with the pregnancy. People keep saying I should be prepared to go into labour early too as this can be genetic... I was just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with this?

No, I was born at 35-ish weeks and my DS was born at 39 (so full term). I asked the midwives and they said there is no correlation - I was worried because my brother was also early at 34 weeks.

I was born at 36 weeks.

1 born 1 week late

#2 born on edd

3 born 4 weeks early

I think it's just not one of those things we have little control over.

I was born one month premature, DD was born a day before her due date so no correlation in my case

Sort of. I was born 6 weeks early, so booked my maternity leave to start 6 weeks before my due date. I then went on to have both my DDs 4 weeks early each. They were healthy and not viewed officially as 'premature' though.

I was 5 weeks early and my Mum had me convinced that I would go early too. DC1 was 12 days late

I was 6-7 weeks early (DB would have been even earlier without medical intervention. I had identical pregnancies to my DM so was convinced I would be the same. The midwife also warned me to be prepared early. However DS was born at 39 weeks. DC 2 isn't here yet. Be prepared with your bag but don't worry too much is my (rather obvious) advice.

Thank you for the comments. I was feeling fine until a few separate people said the same thing about being prepared early and I started to wonder whether it was actually something that I needed to seriously be aware of! (Currently 27 weeks)

I was born at 35 weeks weighing 3 Ib.
DS1 was 8 Ib 11oz at 42 weeks and DS2 was 9 Ib 8 oz at 41 weeks. In my case my early birth and lower than average birth weight did not appear to have any effect on my babies.

It did make me wonder what the record is for the difference between maternal weight at birth and the weight of her baby. I read about a lady who weighed about 5 Ib at birth who gave birth to a 15 Ib 7 oz baby.

Yes but not related. One was a twin birth, the other obstetric cholestasis and high blood pressure.

Yep. I was born at 36 weeks, so was my DD. Both due to high blood pressure although I had pre-eclampsia but my mother was induced before she got to that stage.

So many people said to me that baby was going to come early. I was unconvinced but they were right!

Good luck by the way - I'm not convinced there is a genetic link unless there are similar health issues like the high blood pressure, doesn't look like there is from the posts above either. The most you can do is get your hospital bag prepared early and just try not to worry!

Yes, I was born at 34 weeks almost 50 years ago and had a 29 weeker! Not remotely related though, not at all.

No. I was born at 34 weeks and ds at 41.

Completely the opposite of what you asked but I was born on my due date as was my first born. I'll let you know about my second a week on Monday!

I too ask my midwife this question as I was born 8 weeks early, but my 1st was 2 weeks early, my 2nd was 4 days late and my 3rd was 6 weeks early ( pprom ) no correlation with me being early though.

I was 37w, DS 41.3. My sister was dead on time, both her kids almost 3 weeks early.

My mum was born early due to pre-eclampsia. I was born 10 days late. Dd was born 3 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia. Ds arrived 2 days early on his own accord.

I was born at 30 weeks 40 years ago so a bit touch and go, in an incubator etc for months. she has 2 other children (my brother and sister) born at term. Neither of my children were born prematurely either, one at 40 weeks other at 41 weeks.

I was born 44 years ago at 34 weeks. Not dramatically prem, but for the era.

I had dd1 at 25 weeks. She did not survive. Completely different reasons.

I was however told to prepare myself for the fact that I may ever only have premature babies. I did a lot of research about the affect of prematurity and realised that I actually have a lot of these, I guess specifically with my complete and utter inability to understand numbers.

Thankfully, I did go on to have 4 more dds at 40, 38, 38 and 38 weeks. 10 years on, losing dd1 is very sad indeed.

Yes, but for different reasons.

I was a 32-weeker - emergency C-section due to my Mum having an eclamptic fit.

My DD was a 29-weeker - emergency C-section due to placental abruption.

Yes. I was born at 35 weeks. DD1 was born at 36 weeks (but 35 weeks by my dates).

But DD2 was born at 39 weeks.

I was born at 36 weeks. Just been admitted to hospital with placenta issues (absent edf) and likely to have to deliver early. So don't know if that counts as a patten?!

I asked my consultant the same question a few weeks ago and she said there isn't a correlation.
