Enamel hypoplasia

I've just noticed that my DS (19 months) has some white spots on several of his 9 teeth. He was born at 29 weeks weighing 2lbs 10oz, so I'm pretty sure it's enamel hypoplasia and connected to his prematurity. I brush his teeth twice daily. I recently stopped using toothpaste, as I think it was causing bad eczema around his mouth, so I don't know whether I should try again. He has very little processed sugar and no juice in his diet, though he does have raisins and whole fruit. He's still breastfed a few times a day, so I don't know whether that might have contributed.

Anyway, does anyone have any experience of the problem? Is there anything I can do to help prevent further decay? I obviously need to take him to a dentist. Can I just go to any dentist, or do I need some kind of paediatric dentist (we're not in the UK, I should add)?

Also, does anyone have any great teeth-brushing tips? He hates it and closes his mouth while shaking his head. I do my best while singing, giving him a brush, pretending to brush doll's teeth/my teeth, etc. but it's a bit of an uphill struggle some days sad

I'd definitely reinstate toothpaste. Try different brands as prem teeth are just too weak to go without and fruit can do a lot of damage. My dds aren't great, esp as she's been dairy free for over two years due to allergies. But she is good at having them brushed. When she was less keen we'd have dinosaur roaring contests, do animal noises - anything that got her to open her mouth wide, or I'd let her brush mine, she also liked me taking a pretend inventory of the food Id find hiding there "ooooh here's a baked bean". That kind of thing.

I had never heard of this but have just googled and one of my twins has exactly this.

I brought it up with the dentist and he said it was nothing to worry about it - it won't carry through to the adult teeth. Do you know if that's right?

She only has it on her top two front teeth.
