I went into labour with my son at 35 weeks and delivered him at 36 weeks. The consultant has advised me to be all ready and prepared for 35 weeks.

The only conclusion they came for his early birth was that im petite and there was physically no more growing space left inside me (and I was stretched out as far as I could go).

Everyone I have spoken to has said oh you'll go earlier this time and it really is qorrying me... so my question is:

Those who have had early births what gestation did you give birth to subsequent babies?

Hi Winter. My 4th baby was a 35weeker...no obvious reason. My 3 DDs were:term +2, 38+5, term +5. HTH.

plentyofshoes · 23/08/2014 03:09

The same I am afraid. Both at 33 weeks, but I did begin to go into labour earlier second time round (26 weeks)
I was low risk too. You tend to be two weeks either side or the same, but there is no way of knowing which is the same as a term baby.

WinterLover · 23/08/2014 07:19

thanks for your replies. Had a scary day yesterday where I ended up timing what could have been contractions but turns out I've pulled upper abdominal muscles and ligaments Sad

Marking my place, my DS was born at 33 weeks after spontaneous rupture of membranes. Currently pregnant with DC
2 and am terrified of the same thing happening.

Would love to hear anybody's story of a subsequent term delivery after previous premature birth to give me some hope!

LocalEditorEssex · 23/08/2014 08:33

ds1 37 weeks
ds2 36 weeks
ds3 32 weeks
dd1 35 weeks
dd2 34 weeks

Never given a reason for these early deliveries either.

I hope your baby hold in there for a little longer.

Happylass1 · 25/08/2014 14:52

Good thread, i was also wondering did any of you finish work earlier in subsequent pregnancies. I'm not pregnant again yet but was thinking of this and have a job that i'm on my feet all day.

plentyofshoes · 25/08/2014 20:11

I did. I was going to go off on leave for a month then start mat leave early.
I think it was from 30 weeks as this was things went wrong with ds.
dd beat this and after threatening labour at 26 werks I was put on bed rest from then on.
I was on the short cervix thread this time last year as plentyofsoap as my consultant was excellent.
I knew two other people who had prems at the same time as me with ds. One went overdue, one came earlier at 28 weeks and I was within the hour of my previous birth.

NewToAllThis11 · 25/08/2014 21:54

Good idea for a thread. My situation was a little different as placental flow issues were discovered at 27 weeks and DS was delivered the next day, so i never went into labour. All fine now, and no reason ever given for placenta issues, but I am very nervous about a future pregnancy. Think I would have aspirin and possibly heparin injections as well as more scanning. I would dearly love to get beyond 32 weeks. Good luck, winter - hope you can relax a little bit.

WinterLover · 26/08/2014 12:05

thankyou for your replies. I've hit 30wks today and strangely feeling calmer. Had a private growth scan on Saturday and he estimates baby is measuring about a week and a half further than I am (was the same with DS) and in his professional opinion I won't go full term because 'theres just not enough growing space' which is what the consultant said too.

Glad you are feeling calmer. Dd measured two weeks bigger than dates and was 5ib at 33 weeks. We had a very easy time in comparison to ds.
Have they offered steriod injections?

WinterLover · 27/08/2014 08:23

They haven't, ive to call as soon as I think im in labour and they will assess then

Just see everyday as an extra bonus, but after all the worry I bet you go to full term now Wink

WinterLover · 27/08/2014 13:36

haha I had that conversation with my mum, ill go overdue and need to be induced Grin

DS1 - 41+4
DS2 - 40+6
DS3 - 40+2
DS4 - 35+3
DS5 - 36+6 (although waters went at 35+3)

minipie · 06/10/2014 16:34

Watching with interest, would love some further tales. DD was 34 weeks (PPROM), no apparent reason, no cervix problem etc. Currently 14 weeks with DC2.

I'm petite too but don't think that was the reason as my mum's the same size and shape and went overdue with both me and Dsis...

beachyhead · 06/10/2014 16:44

Dc1. 31 weeks, 5 days
Dc2. 36 weeks, 3 days
Dc3 38 weeks 4 days

So it can get better! Mine were caused by pre-eclampsia.

ilovevenice · 06/10/2014 18:21

DS1 = 35+5
DS2 = 36+6
DS3 = 35+2
My consultant (a specialist in premature delivery) was flummoxed until I tested positive for obstetric cholestasis late on in the third pregnancy, which he said I'd probably had undiagnosed in all 3.

WinterLover · 07/10/2014 08:10

After a panic around 34 weeks when I lost my plug and baby engaged its head im still pregnant and reached 36 weeks. I can't describe how happy that makes me feel Grin no doubt I'll go the other extreme now and be 40+10.

OP posts:
MultipleMama · 15/10/2014 16:10

DS1: 39 weeks (I think Confused)
DD1: Due Date.
DS2: 37 weeks.
DS3: 37 weeks.
DD2: 31 weeks.
DS4: 31 weeks.
DS5: 26 weeks.

I'm 5ft 4 and usually 122-26 pre-pregnancy.
