Hi

Wondered if anyone had any advice? I gave birth to twins on 31/5/14. They were 25 weeks and sadly they were only with us for 5 & 6 days. I am obviously heartbroken but wondered if anyone else experienced extreme prem labour and how long you left it before trying to get pregnant again?
I do want to try again but not sure when.

TIA
Vicki

I am so, so sorry for your losses.

Re when to try again, I'd make an appointment with a consultant to talk through why your babies were born early or whether it was unexplained (maybe you know this already), and whether there are any other factors to bear in mind for a future pregnancy.

Eg if you had a c-section, you might be advised to wait a certain amount of time to let your body recover; if you had pre-eclampsia they may advise a certain gap between pregnancies; if there is an issue with your cervix they can monitor and treat accordingly.

Hi

Thank you. I am still waiting for medical answers and think I may have had undiagnosed pre-eclampsia or HELLP but again, need confirmation. The level of care I/we got was awful so it's ongoing but was looking for any other ladies who may have had something similar happen.

Thanks for answering my post. TC xx

I hope you get some clear answers. My DD was born 3 months early due to pre-eclampsia and HELLP; if there is a next time then I will take aspirin and possibly daily blood thinning injections. I was advised that the optimum time for another pregnancy would be 18-24 months later - partly due to the c-section and partly to reduce the pre-eclampsia recurrence risk. A good doctor will be able to help you weigh up the risks and benefits (both physical and psychological) of waiting vs not waiting and help you decide when to try again. If you have doubts about the quality of care you received then don't forget you can self-refer to any hospital (if you are in/near London I can recommend my doctor via PM if you would like).

Thank you. I have read 18 months somewhere before but I guess I will need to understand a little more. I was on daily aspirin but didn't have any blood tests or my diabetes test either so who knows???!
I have requested that any follow up is done at a different hospital (a large Women's hospital) but haven't heard anything as of yet. I was supposed to go to a follow up appointment at my local hospital on Tuesday but just couldn't bring myself to go back there or to see my consultant. Considering I was 'high risk' due to my MCDA twins I was pretty much left to it.
Thanks again for answering my post x

Didn't want to read and not respond. I am so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine how hard that must have been. xx

Mommy I'm so sorry for your loss xx
Have you managed to get any answers yet? When you are ready please try and follow it up so that you can put the circumstances to rest, nothing will bring your babies back, but not knowing why could potentially stay with you niggling away instead of just being able to remember your babies.
From the limited information you have given it sounds like your hospital has been very poor in looking after all of you and depending on the outcome negligent.
Because you were having mcda twins you should have been scanned fortnightly as a minimum, these scans should have looked for mcda specific problems one of which is twin to twin transfusion syndrome (ttts) if you're not monitored correctly ttts can lead to the loss of 1 or both babies. Please pm me if you want more information and I can point you in the direction of a great support group who can help you with information you can take to the hospital, it's just a group of parents who've been through ttts with many different stories either with survivors or angel babies. I hope you get the answers and peace you deserve. Do not let them fob you off with "it probably was" or "could of been" answers you deserve the truth. Xxx hugs
