Hi,my DD was born at 34 weeks and from what I can make out the reason for this was an infection. If I decide to TTC DC2 would I see the midwife more often and be checked reguarly for infection - Sorry if that is a really silly question but I am intrested to hear from anyone who had a similar experience and then went on to have another baby, thanks in advance

I did - I had twins at 27+6 weeks and remember going to hospital about a week before as I hadn't felt one of them move for a while. They monitored me and I remember them doing a swab. The house officer or registrar told me that I was +ve for Group Stret B (which I knew anyway) and that I had another water infection or something. I didn't really pay that much attention, I'd been convinced something had happened to one of the babies so I was too relieved to be on the ball. Fast forward a few days later, spontaneous premature labour etc and the rest is history.

When I got pregnant for the 2nd time, I'd done quite a bit of research and was sure that the reason I'd gone into labour early the 1st time was because of the infection. However, it was apparently never put on my records. My prem labour, according to my notes, was just one of those things and likely to be because it was twins. I was therefore deemed to be low risk 2nd time around and didn't need any "special" treatment. I kicked up a bit of a fuss when I had my first booking in appointment with the midwife and said I wanted regular check ups for UTIs as well as the normal ante natal care. Anyway, they ended up giving me a load of swabs and test tubes and every 4 weeks I had to do a swab myself (just at home), put it in the test tube and drop it off at either my GP or the hospital. I was able to phone a few days later for the results just to keep on top of it all.

HTH

Thats really good to know, my notes are pretty crap to be honest and depending on which part you read you will get different reasons as to why labour was prem. They pumped me full of antibiotics during labour and it is recorded that my temp is shockingly high so I think I am going with the infection theory. I am meeting up with the midwife in a few weeks to discuss the care I would receive if we decide to TTC. Thanks again for sharing your experience Smile
