Hi,
I don't seem to do pregnancy very well, but here's my little story.
Preg.1 = what could go wrong did and we both nearly died, pre- became eclampsia and he was born at 30 weeks, had stopped growing at 25...weighed 650g at birth (or 1lb 7oz if you prefer)...however has just turned 11 and is doing brilliantly in all aspects of life.Born by emerg.c-section.
Preg.2 = because of history more checks, had a scan at 25 weeks + 5 and all seemed well. Three days later woke with huge pains, end result was a massive abruption that had exploded, and my gorgeous Angel was born sleeping.(Little boy)Gave birth naturally, no pain relief after 4 days...the only thing I could do for him.
Preg.3 = Loads more checks and scans, lots of visits to doctors just so I could hear heartbeat, stays in hospital regularly because they weren't going to take any chances. Also given medication. Gorgeous little girl born at 38 weeks, and she came of her own accord ! Little on the light side and a short stay in SCBU which would have been prevented if silly nurses hadn't tubed her ! She is now 6 and also doing brilliantly !
I think really you can only find out once you are expecting. And it is one of those things that no-one can pre-determine or guess. It's horrible to go through, and does cause more worry than normal when expecting but the end result is AMAZING so worth it !
I do know how scared you must feel, but please don't let your first pg prevent you having another child. Yes, you could have problems again, but you may not and it could be a breeze. I think I am an extreme case where my body for whatever reason doesn't react well to being pregnant, but there must be other people out there who haven't been as unfortunate as I and had an abruption then a "successful pregnancy". Having gone through what I have, to be honest, there is nothing worse than losing a child, and any pregnancy that ends with a healthy baby is a good one.
I hope this helps you in a small way. If you want to talk further I sort of pop in and out during the day/evening...if you have any questions I will try to help in any way I can. Unfortunately, no-one can guarantee you a healthy pregnancy, but try to reassure you that they will do all they can to ensure that you and baby get to the end safely, and well.
Best wishes,
