Medical abortion advice/experiences

Hi all, I’m looking for medical termination experiences please. I’ve found myself in a difficult situation of needing a termination, we fell pregnant unexpectedly due to failed contraception with already having a 16 month old (due date would be the same as my daughters 2nd birthday), we don’t have the room or finances to go ahead which has been difficult to accept but come to terms with this now. I’ve had a NIGHTMARE experience with MSI and I’ve today, eventually got the pills almost 3 weeks after finding out I was pregnant. Luckily, I had an US on Wednesday and they could only see a 8mm sac with a yolk sac within and no fetal pole inside which puts me at around 5w6d today so will be taking the final pills 6w1d. I’ve read so many horror stories online about the pain being unbearable, passing out, throwing up, worst pain of their lives etc and I’ve got myself in a state but I’ve found some comfort in reading experiences on mumsnet and wondering if anyone could share please? I’m taking the first pill tonight and the rest on Sunday at 2pm. I’m keen to know how long the worst of the process lasted for everybody as I’m really worried I won’t be over the worst by my daughters bedtime as she’s not the greatest sleeper but due to other commitments, I can’t take these before Sunday afternoon. I’ve been given codeine and told to take ibuprofen and paracetamol and would like to know when people took different pain relief to minimise the pain? I’m genuinely so scared to do this!😩 my partner will be home to care for my daughter all day Sunday and will put her to bed Sunday evening but she usually wants me if she wakes in the night, he’s also taking the Monday off work, will this be enough time?

Thank you both. I’m just waiting for the misoprostol to take effect. Have been quite nervous but half an hour in and so ready for this to be over. I took your advice and took the painkillers an hour ago to hopefully ward off any super strong cramps. Thank you for being available and for the support, it’s hard not confiding in anyone!

Hope you’re managing okay! Paracetamol and ibuprofen definitely help. I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it was! It’ll be a week tomorrow for me, and I’ve had a constant light-to-normal period-like flow. Hoping it’ll stop soon 🙈

I’m doing ok thank you, I agree that it’s not as painful as I anticipated although I did expect to bleed a lot more.

I did a shop bought pregnancy test yesterday and it’s still showing at positive 😕 I have the clinic one to do and it’ll be 21 days on Tuesday. My anxiety is high and don’t think it has worked 😢

They do say shop bought ones can be positive for a good few weeks and are much more sensitive than the specific clinic ones! Just over a week after I had taken the second tablets I had a full day of bleeding non stop. A super plus tampon plus pad every hour for 10+ hours. I was losing large clots and becoming quite worried then it just suddenly stopped (well slowed back down!) and I felt a lot better. Didn’t expect that at all tho!

@CoralGraceRowyeah I’m praying it has worked! I only passed a couple of small type clots and had a normal to heavy bleed but not super heavy for two weeks! I don’t have any symptoms but I feel bloated well hoping it’s that and not a bump! 😩 I can do the clinic test Tuesday morning, although tempted to do it tomorrow!

Fingers crossed it has worked for you! After the awful random day where I was just flooding the other day I wish I’d had gone for the surgical option because it did scare me. I assumed the worst bleeding would be straight afterwards. The wait is the worst bit tho. I’ll be glad when this is all behind me.

I done the test this morning and had a very faint positive 😔 I made a call to the clinic and they are sending out another test for me to do in a couple of days. If it’s still positive I will have to go in for an assessment 😔
