Failed MA at 4 weeks. Experience with continuing pregnancy?

Took the mifepristone and misoprostol pills at 4wks and 4wk1day pregnant. Afterwards, I bleed for 9 days with the first 5 days being more heavy and the last 4 days being lighter.

I waited 5 weeks afterwards to test again and when my urine test came back positive, I went and got a HGG blood test that came back at over 14,000.

I’ve made appointments within the next week to go to a clinic for a scan, but I’m pretty sure I am still pregnant at this point. My symptoms of nausea, fatigue, and increased blood flow to my uterus have returned after a brief decrease immediately after the pills were taken.

Anyone with experience with a continuing pregnancy after MA?

I am unsure if I want to redo the pills (Is there a higher chance of failure for a second round of pills if the first one already failed?), get a SA, or choose to continue the pregnancy (I am worried about birth defects, I’ve been smoking weed, and also got botox). I would be 9wks3days at this point.

Any advice or stories about personal experience is appreciated, thanks!

Oh my @Smellers, it sounds like you have a rare second chance to decide about this pregnancy. The good news is that abortion pills have nearly no negative effect on the foetus if they don't work. I Googled and it seems that Botox, while not recommended, is not thought to be a major concern as it isn't thought to spread much throughout the body (I don't think there are any long term studies done yet).

The use of marijuana during pregnancy definitely has risks, though I would think that if a pregnant mum stopped using it for the majority of the pregnancy, it would give the baby better odds at avoiding problems. Here's a brochure I found online but it doesn't give percentages on how many babies that were exposed to weed went on to develop problems. You could probably talk more to your doctor about that. https://www.ouh.nhs.uk/media/3kwmuktx/107057cannabis.pdf

I can't imagine the emotional turbulence you've been through over the last few months and I hope that if you were regretting the abortion, this can still have a happy ending. Good luck whatever you end up deciding to do.
