Question about the morning after pill

Hey.
Just looking for some advice - I’ve taken the morning after pill and the pharmacist said it stops a fertilised egg from implanting but from what I’ve read it says it delays ovulation. Does anyone know what is correct?
Thank you

I don’t know why they still say it prevents implantation - I think that was believed to be true many years ago but now we know it just delays ovulation if it hasn’t happened yet. The copper IUD can also be used as emergency contraception (again I don’t know why it’s not made better known) and I think it’s within 5 days it can be fitted.

I know right! Did they mention it to you if you have bought the pill before? X

If you are panicking and if pregnancy would be something you'd REALLY like to avoid, I'd always advise the copper iud. Insertion is fine (especially compared to abortion) and you can have it out after your period if you don't want to keep it.

It can be used up to 5 days after your ovulation and it prevents implantation, more effective than the morning after pill. Your local clinic will offer it. FYI if they ask how many times you've had unprotected sex this cycle just refer to the one time.

My friend was turned away from having it becuase she had had sex on like day 6 and day 14 and they said we can't fit it on day 16 in case you're pregnant from the day 6 sex. She then had to drive 2hrs away to another clinic and pretend to be local and lie about the day 6 sex to then get it fitted after the local one refused 😂

I’ve had it in the past and no, not mentioned. The information given is horrendous. Also the copper IUD when fitted as an emergency isn’t the same list as those waiting for it as general contraception. Local nhs sexual health clinics will do it as an emergency.

Don’t feel silly. You aren’t the first and you won’t be the last. The experts should be divulging this information to people when giving them the medication but the thinking can be so old school in my opinion instead of looking at recent and more relevant research. If you’re within 5 days and definitely don’t want a pregnancy I’d make enquiries first thing on Monday about an emergency copper IUD.
