Hi, so I had a medical abortion just over 5 weeks ago. I was 7 weeks pregnant at the time.
Fast forward to last week - I started bleeding very heavily at exactly 4 weeks post medical abortion. Thought it was my period coming back, blood got heavier with lots of gushing & palm-sized clots. Went to A&E and they booked me in for an ultrasound which confirmed 1cm RPOC (retained placental tissue which is vascularised).
After the big bleed last week, I started taking tranaxemic acid which completely stopped the bleeding (started taking this before my ultrasound, if I'd of known I had RPOC I wouldn't have taken it to try and let it come out). HCG was still 325 last week.
RPOC is too small for medical or surgical intervention. Doctors seem convinced it SHOULD come out with my next period. HCG was retested on Wednesday (5 days ago) which came back at 63. Had my HCG retested yesterday + awaiting results - praying it is now down to 0. I had my first negative pregnancy test today.
I'm not in pain, I'm not bleeding, no signs of infection. The only catch - I'm moving abroad next week and my medical insurance won't cover this as its a pre-existing condition. Booked flights + accom etc before knowing I had RPOC, to my knowledge my abortion was successful.
Does anyone have a positive experience of RPOC passing naturally in their next period? (Particularly if it is of similar size to mine - 10mm & vascularised). My lowering HCG confirms I should have a period as normal in a couple of weeks, and hopefully with it being literally 10mm it will pass.
I hate how wish-washy it all is, and nobody has a definitive answer. I don't want to put my move on hold as I've already stopped working in the UK for the RPOC to just come out naturally. Paying for an ultrasound & blood test to confirm it has cleared will be fine - but if it DID come to medical/surgical intervention, it will be expensive and a bit uneccesary when we have free healthcare in the UK. Feeling super stressed and head is all over!
