I am with my boyfriend now over a year and we moved in together about 6 months ago. Currently we are moving to a new place just over the weekend we moved into a bigger apartment. There was so many things going on in my life all at once. We are planning a wedding, we're moving life is just beginning for us two together and we are ao excited.

But this new year when my period was late 5 days I was abroad I thought all the stress and flying from travelling made my period late which it has happened few times. This time no... I tested positive on the pregnancy test we couldn't believe it, it was a shock because I was told before I have PCOS and I felt all this time that getting pregnant would be tough, I guess it wasnt...
I am writing this post to share my story maybe someone can relate someone can find thus helpful or slightly comforting for their experience with abortion too.

I wouldn't say my story is very positive but also not super negative. Its real and honest. I had my phone consultation with the clinic with their doctor I firstly messed up my period dates which made me 10 weeks and the doctor wouldn't listen to me after I said I made a mistake she booked me for a scan to check the weeks which confirmed I was 6 weeks that exact day. On Saturday I got my medication physically in the clinic the experience was weird the woman was rushing made me feel uncomfortable its loke she wanted to get rid of me. Anyway I took my first pill at home at 6pm I felt very weak and faint I couldn't do anything but sit I felt so so nauseous but i felt thus way everyday from pregnancy but this pill made it worse then over 40 hours later I took 2 pills into the mouth to dissolve in my cheeks at 10am already at 11 I was cramping nothing bad, soon after I was bleeding and had diarrhoea on top of vomiting same time my friend was there to help. I was taking ponstan, paracetamol, motilium and imodium for nausea and diarrhoea because I had it all same time. It wasn't pretty at all I didnt feel well but still was manageable. I went to the toilet again as I felt bad cramping needing to vomit and have diarrhoea this one was the worst thus was 2 hours after the pill. The cramps were really bad I was sweating so much I was hot and in pain soon after I passed the pregnancy I a bug blob of blood clots came out I didn't look but I felt it, you kind of just know that that's it. I passed it got up and showered felt huge relief no pain almost. No more diarrhoea or vomiting. Then after for few hours I had cramps similar to period and passed 2 very large blood clots which I had to dispose of as they didn't absorb on the pad wasn't possible. Then I had some light bleeding nothing crazy and now I am recovering today very little blood and no pain I feel much better almost like new.

I'm sorry if this us too much detail but this is my story this is what I experienced and I hope it helps some of you to see what it looks like and how it feels. I was really scared I was nervous but once I experienced it I was okay I managed I pulled through its still all very new but I hope I will be okay and I wish all you ladies here the same I hope your experience isn't too bad or too painful but if it is just take it as it is and pull through you got this.

I'm shocked they allowed you to do this at home. I had a medical abortion many many years ago now. I remember going to the hospital for a blood test (to determine blood type) in the rare chance of needing a transfusion. I was given the first part of the drugs that actually ends the life and sent home. I had to come in the next day and was put on a ward with other women who were there for the same reason and given the second part of the drugs that actually expel the foetus. Everything that passed was collected in a cardboard bedpan and taken away by a medical person to check that all parts had come out otherwise you can end up with infection/sepsis.
I had no nausea, diarrhoea and minimal cramps. I had passed everything within an hour of taking the second lot of drugs. For me it was more mentally unpleasant than physically. A lot of the other women on the ward were throwing up and really struggling behind the dividing curtains though. I suppose it is a different experience for each person.

@TheCircusOfLife I had one at home recently, long story short I haemorrhaged due to retained product. Fainted on the loo at home next thing I was in resus at A&E. Very very un well & I was recovering from sepsis which I had 2 weeks prior. So scary and so so traumatic for my partner. I totally agree with you, I don’t think that it should be done at home.

@Jinx98 how are you feeling now?

TheCircusOfLife · 17/01/2024 10:45

@Friedseasalt That is horrendous. I wasn't given the option of doing it at home, as it was considered an automatic hospital monitoring process. I can't believe how far the NHS has fallen.
