If you had all your childhood vaccines you would have been vaccinated with this as a child so will be nothing new to you.
There are four elements of the vaccine, diphtheria, tetanus, polio and pertussis (whooping cough) that's the one we want to protect baby against. YouTube whooping cough, one it sounds horrific, two it can be very dangerous in newborns.
The way it works is it travels to baby through you to give them protection. Your baby will then have their own doses at their primary vaccination course, they'll have doses at 8, 12, 16 weeks and then a booster at 3yrs 4 months.
As with any vaacine, most common side effects, sore arm, headache, swelling to localised area of injection, just like any vaccines.
Hope that helps you make a decision. You can always make the appointment and discuss with the nurse. You don't have to agree after having a discussion about it but at least you will be fully informed.
