Good morning Adel,

My name is Lisa and I am birth and postnatal doula. Some people find it hard to understand the huge amount of support and comfort a doula can bring during this time. If you read this and feel you'd like to explore, please feel free to visit my website and contact me if you have any questions. www.becoming-mum.co.uk.

A doula is a non medical midwife that can offer consistent support that focuses on your needs. A doula will offer emotional, practical and informational support during pregnancy, birth and once you bring baby home.

There is evidence to show that having a doula can mean:

Reduced risk of Caesarean birth † *.

Reduced risk of instrumental birth † *.

Reduced need for painkillers or epidural during birth † *.

Reduced rate of induction of labour † *.

Shorter labour †.Increased parental satisfaction with the birth experience. †

Increased likelihood of initiating breastfeeding *.

Increased likelihood of successfully establishing breastfeeding & breastfeeding at 6 weeks *.

Lower incidence of depressive symptomatology †.

Improve equity and provide culturally responsive care#
