I've just found this for you

Conscious sedation is a combination of medicines to help you relax (a sedative) and to block pain (an anesthetic) during a medical or dental procedure. You will probably stay awake, but may not be able to speak.
Conscious sedation lets you recover quickly and return to your everyday activities soon after your procedure.
General anesthesia is treatment with certain medicines that puts you into a deep sleep so you do not feel pain during surgery. After you receive these medicines, you will not be aware of what is happening around you.
Is it in relation to a termination? Sorry for asking.

I had conscious sedation, I would never do it again. I can tell you my experience, it wasn't that graphic, but extremely upsetting for me.

@scaredorganicyoghurt ooh if you don't mind sharing please ? X

I don't know what drugs they gave me, I can't remember. I was given painkillers through my arm, strong ones. I remember how painful it was, throughout the whole thing up until I don't remember anything, which was they gave me like the third or fourth dose. I had headphones on but could hear everything, and the pain was intense. I have endometriosis though so I don't know if that contributed to the pain, cause from what I've read here it shouldn't have been so painful. After they managed woke me up l/rouse me in the chair thing they made me put some giant knickers on and a pad, and when I stood up with them steadying me, a load of blood came out of me and onto the pads on the floor, which were already covered in blood. I felt fine after it (was high I guess), went home after half an hour or so lying in another room. Bled through my trousers in the taxi home, couldn't really stay awake when I got back home either, kept falling asleep on the couch. I didn't have much pain after until about a week or so, and then suddenly I had a good bit of bleeding again (apparently normal). That pain woke me up at night, was vomiting from it. Ponstan helped.

Good luck with your decision, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Wishing you the best xxx

PS I hope I haven't scared you, if this is something you need to do for yourself. Everything will be fine, I just wanted to tell you my experience of it because I hadn't really seen it put like that on here before I did it.

@scaredorganicyoghurt oh my god your must of been terrified poor you! I hope you have recovered from this! & I've basically been messed around when I first rang msi and I was 5 weeks it's took them
So long I'm now 11 weeks, I've rang a different clinic to be told they don't do surgical there only medical and I don't qualify for medical so I've rang another one and they don't do local anaesthetic after 10 weeks they only do GA and CS but I'm scared x

Terrified is exactly what I was, I was so so scared. Physically I've recovered completely, emotionally is a different story 😅
Try not to be afraid, whichever one you get you will be ok after it. I was nearly 12 weeks when I had it. If you're nervous before it, ask if you can take a Valium or something, I asked and they said I could, but in the end I didn't.

scaredorganicyoghurt · 12/01/2023 20:32

Oh and btw, I think it's for the best you don't do local anaesthetic, it will be much kinder to you physically and emotionally if you aren't fully conscious for it. I promise you'll be fine xxx

Just wanted to share my experience as I feel women are made to feel so worried about having this procedure. From my own experience I have had conscious sedation and I can honestly say I recommend it, the nurses at Bpas are amazing and make you feel so welcome and comfortable. Once you’ve had the sedation you really don’t feel a thing and also you don’t even remember being in the room.. so if you are feeling anxious like I was beforehand then I hope this gives you some comfort

Got for general. You aren't under for very long and why would you want to be awake for such a procedure.

I've had sedation for a colonoscopy and camera down my throat - boat hurt alot.

Women should be allowed proper pain relief and to pick their correct level of consciousness.
