Who to call?

A week late for my period but after years of fertility problems didn't think much of it. Made myself do a test this morning and yup it's positive. I must be just over 5 weeks based on dates.

As much as we wanted another child (we have a son, aged 8), I just can't do it now. We couldn't afford another child in our current circumstances and I know in my gut the right thing to do is to have an abortion.

My question is who do I call? How long is the process? Do they just send pills in the post? Would I need to take time off work (I work full time but mostly from home)?

Hey@Gworly ,
You can try BPAS, MSI or NUPAS, depends on who is providing in your area. I’ve had experience with BPAS and they generally try to get you seen as quick as possible. For the pills in the post you have to be before 10 weeks and in my experience they scanned before they sent them out just to date properly. In regards to taking time off work, it would probably require you to take a day or two off work to recover properly. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I’m more than happy to help :)

Thank you so very much for replying!

I'm not sure how I'd know who is providing my area but I filled out the online form on BPAS' website. With regards to time off work, my employers are really not the most sympathetic and I have to book annual leave 4 weeks in advance. If I plan it (wow that sounds weird to write) for a Friday evening should I be good for the Monday? I know that sounds really clinical but money is tight and my work can be arseholes.

Also, if they scan you is it at the hospital, like a normal scan? I've been pregnant 5 times before and had 4 miscarriages so this is making my brain go into overdrive.

BPAS will confirm with you when they get back and they usually get back quite quickly, i did enquire at msi prior to bpas and they said even though they aren’t providing in my area I could get my gp to contact them with a password/referral and it would be able to be done under the NHS.
I understand you on the work front and you’d be over the worst part of it over the weekend, if anything you’d have just bleeding to manage after which is like a period.

The scan occurs at the providers clinic, it’s a normal scan and if they can’t see it externally they do the internal one. They do ask if you want to see the screen or not. Personally, all the nurses and midwives I encountered were all lovely and they do put your mind at ease with everything.
I can only imagine how much you must be thinking right now, I’m here if you need anyone to speak to, I can try be as helpful as I can. :)

That is so incredibly helpful, thank you. BPAS emailed last night and said they don't cover my area and to contact MSI. Hopefully MSI cover my area. You've really put my mind at ease. Thank you so much.

I don't suppose anyone knows how I can turn off receiving private messages?

I hope everything goes well and I’m here if you have any more questions. And in regards to private messaging, not the foggiest sorry
