I’m only a couple of weeks but for a whole host of complicated reasons I need for it to not be on my medical records. Is this even possible?

Possibly through a family planning clinic, you could bypass the gp?

Is private an option for you? I think that would be absolutely confidential.

I went via my local spectrum sexual health clinic. They referred me to the hospital and I had the termination.
I've since had 2 children and my termination doesn't appear to be on my records as no one was aware of it at all.

Thank you both. It’s tricky to get the money together for private without it being noticed. I’ll have to try and come up with a way. I have time yet as it’s very early.

You can have a telephone conversation with Marie stopes and they will post you the pills.

Clymene · 02/07/2022 12:03

And you can ask for it to be confidential and not added to your medical records. You will need to give them your details though so that they can confirm you're eligible for an nhs abortion.

AquaticSewingMachine · 02/07/2022 12:06

You can go directly to Marie Stopes or BPAS and ask them not to send the details to your GP. You don't have to pay (assuming you're otherwise eligible for NHS treatment). That way it won't be on your medical record.

Emakumea · 02/07/2022 12:15

That’s brilliant, thank you so much!

Are the reasons why you don't want it on your GP notes due to privacy 8n general or due to health reasons.

I'm not asking you to disclose on here the reasons I just want to caution you that if there are medical reasons why an abortion may compromise your health or need to be done differently to factor in a health condition that it is best to be very honest with the service provider you use.

anybloodyname · 02/07/2022 12:25

Please call BPAS , they will be able to tell from your home address if your provider will be them , MSI or NUPAS - all depending on where you live

You will then be booked for probably a Telephone consultation , assessed re suitability, if there is a need for US and then provided or booked for which ever treatment is right for you

Counselling will be included

Take your time and please be open and honest re dates and medical questions

You will be fine and they will look after you well 💐

LosingMyPancakes · 02/07/2022 12:37

Yes, BPAS, they will not communicate with your GP unless specified by you. I was given an envelope after the procedure with all the medical info regarding the termination with the option to give it to my GP if I wanted. I haven't, for no other reason than forgetting. But when I had a contraception check up a few months back, they had no record of it on the system - that's when I remembered I've forgotten to give them the envelope!

Sexual health services in my area use a separate clinical recording system to other more generic primary care settings, such as GPs.
They will explicitly ask for your consent to share information with your GP, which you can decline. They are very aware that many people wish for this area of healthcare to remain extra discreet.

I won’t bore you with the details but I just don’t want my husband to find out.

You're welcome. Good luck, hope it goes smoothly

AquaticSewingMachine · 02/07/2022 13:42

Good luck OP. You may want to clear your browser history if you think there's any chance he might view it. Your medical record should be confidential from your husband in any case, unless you chose to share it with him.

I've literally today taken my first tablet turns out i started a miscarriage last night but still I was advised to carry on with the tablets. I was asked if they (bpas nurses) could contact my GP I said no. So although not fully anonymous my GP or anyone else will not know anything about it.
