Hi, this wasn't an easy decision and not something I'd ever thought I'd do but I'm having to go through with a medical abortion. To say I'm scared is an understatement. I'm thinking all sorts and I'm getting into a panic. I'm scared if there's too much blood, I'm scared if there's too much pain, I'm scared if I take codeine and have a reaction to it just you name it and I'm absolutely petrified. Hope anyone can help.

Anyone? Please?

I react to codeine. And I'm still here and fine.

You will manage and you will be OK. It really is one of the safest medical procedures there is.

Thanks

Thank you @MrsTerryPratchett

I really hope you feel better. I found something to distract is good. For me it was Stargate or Star Trek but I'm a nerd. Is there anything mindless you can watch?

Annon12345 · 24/03/2022 14:59

Can you contact where you got your pills from? I had one almost two years ago at home. For me the blood wasn't as bad as I thought but then I guess that will be different for everyone.
Best of luck I know how tough a decision it can be but if you're struggling please do contact the service you're using or gp x x

I'm about to go through this myself- how far along are you OP?

thefootballcoacheswife · 24/03/2022 15:02

The bleeding was like a very heavy period for me and lasted two days then decreased. Not much pain apart from
Some very strong cramps over the first 8 hours which I dealt with just by taking paracetamol. Rest up, make sure you have water and snacks, and everything you need.
Take care of yourself -sending a virtual hug.

I had one 6 years ago (around 10 weeks). I thought I was being sensible researching but came across a lot of very dramatic accounts which made me really scared. In reality the main passing was between the size of a plum and a lemon. I didn't really feel pain just a bit uncomfortable and the same feeling of blood as in having a period. I had one more clot about 3 or 4 days later and on and off bleeding for about 10 days. I don't think I had to take anything for pain relief. Afterwards I had mixed feelings of both sadness and calm relief. Be kind to yourself it takes a lot out of you physically and emotionally.

I’ve just posted on another thread but mine was overall a bit of a non-event. Fingers crossed yours is the same OP.

I did not need codeine but my plan was to take them before bed incase I did react.

I wouldn’t read too much, as tempting as it is. Get your favourite snacks and some trashy tv. Good luck x

Missmums · 24/03/2022 23:32

Aw sending hugs. You’ll get through fine. You are strong. Good luck and take care x

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/03/2022 00:01

Thinking of you OP.

bostonbella · 25/03/2022 08:43

I have only just taken my first pill this morning and due for 2nd one Sunday . Def feeling nervous

Sandallllllls · 25/03/2022 08:47

I had one 15 years ago (I was in my mid-20s) and it felt a bit like a bought of diarrhoea: cramps, the needing to “pass” something. Physically it wasn’t terrible.

I watched back-to-back episodes of my favourite comfort tv series. I felt physically better quite quickly after.

I remember it vividly and it was a hard thing to do, but I have never, not for one split second, regretted it.

Good luck, op. Flowers

Well I'm going to take my second lot of pills soon and I'm trying to stop myself crying. My heart is pounding. Having to do it later as I don't want my son to see anything. Still frightened.

Well I've done it. Laying down now convinced they're either not in far enough or they'll drop out.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/03/2022 20:09

Just breathe. You'll be OK

vipersnest1 · 25/03/2022 20:23

To add to the wise words of PP, you can always ring 999 or 111 if you need some advice or immediate help. Thanks

Cantchooseaname · 25/03/2022 20:24

It’s safe.
Can you distract yourself with crap tv?
I have a saying for the hard days - “this too shall pass!!” Just get through now. Next minute, everything else will look after itself.
Be kind to yourself.

Inpanicmode · 25/03/2022 20:24

Thank you

And, I'm so sorry, I should have added this to my last post, please don't be afraid of reaching out if you feel really unwell or are not sure of what's happening.
The chances are everything will be ok, but if you are worried, you can ask for help.

Inpanicmode · 25/03/2022 20:27

Thank you @Cantchooseaname going to go downstairs in 10 mins to find something rubbish to watch. Can't move at the moment I'm convinced they're going to drop out.
