Medical abortion week 5 + 2

I wanted to start this thread as I relied on the posts on here to help me understand what I was going to go through as it’s the only place on the internet where it’s not set out in a sterile and factual manner but based on experiences.

There are a lot of horror stories - but if you look there are also experiences which go ok - so don’t panic.

I found out I was pregnant last week and knew immediately it was the wrong time for us. I spoke to Marie Stopes and had an appointment on Friday and my consultation Monday. Picked up the tablets Monday afternoon and took the first tablet then.

I had pretty bad nausea from the pregnancy symptoms and was very bloated. This continued after taking the first tablet but I wasn’t sick.

24 hours later I took the four tablets vaginally. Pretty instantly I got a bit of the chills and shakes (in my legs only). At the same time I took the codiene and ibruprofen. Along with a hot water bottle this made it all very manageable.

About 3 hours later I went to the loo and felt a blueberry pass - which I assume was it. My pains were no worse than a period and I haven’t experienced huge amount of bleeding.

I’ve woken up this morning for the first time in a week with no nausea and less bloating. Still a bit of tummy cramping and moderate bleeding.

Whilst it will be different for everyone - I hope this helps one person be less scared and know it will be ok. X

@Mel1917

Yup must have been the same one, not an ideal message to receive from someone who know nothing about my situation!

Really glad you have no pain, is it just like a period now?

Thank you, I'm very nervous, but counting down the hours ! Xx

Mel1917 · 24/11/2020 09:56

@butter675 for me it's actually "better" than a period.. Always wearing a pad but tend to only bleed a fair amount when I go to the loo - still alot then. My periods are normally really heavy so day to day it's manageable. I don't feel pregnant anymore so I think all has gone well. X

Hi,
I don’t know if anyone will respond but I’m going to be ringing tomorrow to book myself in for a medical abortion. I have also read horror stories so now I’m in a mad panic and I feel like I’m sentencing myself to death or something. It’s so near Christmas as well, if I start the process next week- will I be ok for Christmas? I don’t want to tell my family about it and they are coming round for Christmas.

Hi @EmmaJane247, I follow this post religiously as I was in your position back in August. I was supported by some lovely users on here and I would like to give back 💕
Firstly - virtual hand-hold. It is going to be OK 💕
The timing for me was - I had the positive pregnancy test on the Wednesday. I tested 3 days after my period was due, so I "caught it" as soon as I could if that makes sense?
As a result I was told that I wouldn't need a scan. Everything was over the phone.
The BPAS call taker arranged my telephone consultation with the nurse for the following Tuesday (6 days later) who sent the pills out in the post that day. They arrived on the Thursday. I took the first pill on the Thursday, and took the other 4 pessaries on the Friday afternoon. And that was it - end of procedure. My experience was textbook and I encountered no hitches at all! It was uncomfortable, but no worse than a bad period. I had my boyfriend on hand who was incredibly caring and supportive for the entire process. I just want to reassure you that things will be OK, and my experience was certainly not like the horror stories I had read online about!
9 days from finding out i was pregnant to the terminated pregnancy leaving my body xx

@EmmaJane247

Hi. I'm Butter. Just had a name change.

So sorry you are going through this. We are here to support you through.

I'll give you a brief outline of my experience, hopefully it will put your mind at ease.

I was around 3 weeks pregnant, so very early in.

Found out on a Monday. Called Marie stopes immediately. Has a phone consultation on the Thursday. Appointment at clinic on the Tuesday.

On the Tuesday they gave me a scan to rule out ectopic and date the pregnancy.

Gave me 2 codine and the oral tablet. Immediately sent me to the toilet to insert 4 tablets vaginally.

I had very soft cramps that night. Started bleeding exactly 24 hours after the appointment.

Few clots, nothing major. The next day was a heavy bleed. No worse than a heavy period.

I bled for 6 days in all. The cramps were manageable, I only took pain killers for the First 2 days.

Happy to answer any questions you have.

X

Who do I ring to do the initial booking? I don’t know where to start as I’m nervous!

notanothernamechange76 · 04/12/2020 17:48

@EmmaJane247

I called Marie stopes. They are nhs recommended. You will be speaking to to a sort of call centre rather than nurse. They will take your name, number and address and book you in for a call with a nurse. Probably a few days later.

Alternatively. Google 'termination nhs' there is a few other charities/clinics/nhs centres they recommend.

I was very nervous too and had no idea what to do either. But you will be fine. Please feel free to keep popping on here, I'll keep an eye on the thread. @Mel1917 was there for me throughout and talked me through it all in Private messages. Happy to do the same for you if there is anything you need xx

EmmaJane247 · 04/12/2020 17:59

@notanothernamechange76

Thanks so much, I’ll be ringing Marie stops tomorrow, a few are open at the weekends, that sounds lovely. Thank you so much, you are all so supportive and it makes me feel a lot safer Flowers

notanothernamechange76 · 04/12/2020 18:03

You will be fine. Have you told anyone in real life at all ?

Also you mentioned worrying about Xmas. You will be absolutely fine by then, you won't have to tell anyone unless you feel you want to.

notanothernamechange76 · 05/12/2020 09:32

How are you feeling this morning @EmmaJane247

EmmaJane247 · 05/12/2020 11:43

I’m feeling okay, starting to come to terms with what I’m going to do, just waiting to hear back from places Smile

notanothernamechange76 · 05/12/2020 14:58

It's a hard decision, everyone has their different reasons. It's not something anyone wants to have to go through. But you will be okay. xx

EmmaJane247 · 06/12/2020 11:31

So I just had my telephone consultation and I have a telephone appointment tonight at 7.30, I don’t know why but once I got of the phone I just burst into tears, I really need support now Sad

EmmaJane247 · 06/12/2020 11:46

They’ve now rang back and pushed it forward to 3.40 Sad going to take my mind of it for a little while

hillarypcof · 06/12/2020 14:20

@emmajane247 here for you 💕

EmmaJane247 · 06/12/2020 14:58

They have rang I have to go in for a scan due to back I have had, hope this doesn’t delay it for any longer, they talked about the risks which have also terrified me Sad

hillarypcof · 06/12/2020 15:14

@emmajanes247 They have to talk about the risks to everybody (covering their own backsides) as a matter of procedure. Don't think about that too much, they gave you the worsening advice as they would do anybody (they were telling me all about the statistics of people that end up requiring a hysterectomy etc), and my procedure went textbook. The scan won't delay anything. Have they given you a date for the scan? They will give you the pills there and then on the same day in hospital if you are able to have a medical procedure x

notanothernamechange76 · 06/12/2020 19:44

The scan won't delay it at all if anything will be quicker as you can take both sets of med the same day.
