Amniocentesis experience?

Anyone here with experience of the Amniocentesis test? I'm 26 weeks and baby's kidneys are bright on the scan, Dr's can't confirm if there is anything wrong but also can't confirm if everything will be alright once baby is here, I've had the combined blood test earlier at 12 weeks which came back low risk bug again nothing is guaranteed! I'm at risk of preterm labor as I'm high risk pregnancy.
Has anyone had it and everything was ok with the pregnancy?

I think the question at this point is what you will do with the Results. You are over the abortion cut off (and I don’t think that a problem with the kidneys would qualify you for an abortion after 24 weeks) so, as the pregnancy needs to continue I’m not sure that I would risk it given the risk of preterm labour.

However, if you want to know it’s the only sure fire way. If the dr is saying to you that everything could be fine then yes, you could have the amnio and if all be fine.

Sorry, I’ve just realised you didn’t actually ask whether you should have the test or not.

@PotteringAlong
I have the option of an abortion at any stage from now till 36 weeks due to the kidneys.

I want to know the experience of others and the amniocentesis test.

Thanks

I had an amnio last year. I was dreading it but it was fine. It started off as a scan and then I was asked if I wanted to go ahead. The doctor was very very careful and used the monitor to guide the needle so I wasn’t worried about the needle hurting the baby. It did sting a bit, but no worse than a blood test (and I’ve had far more painful blood tests!). Afterwards I was told to rest for the rest of the day, which suited me! I felt fine and treated myself to a nice takeaway. The rest of the pregnancy proceeded normally. I understand this is a really worrying time and I hope you get the answers you want and need as soon as possible.

I had one 13 years ago. It really doesn't hurt very much and I am not good with needles! It also meant another scan with a better machine so I just focused on looking at that. I went home intending to rest but as I had an 18 month old that didn't really happen! All was well though. Don' worry about the test itself - I hope the results are more positive than you fear.
