Hi, wondered if anyone had any tips for giving birth whilst having bad SPD? Currently on a crutch and so pain/pregnancy is manageable, but can't imagine what position/pain relief will be good for SPD, any thoughts? X

Aah - ive been in that position twice. I lay on my side for one and on all fours ( cant think how to describe) for the other. Avoid stirrups. It didnt cgange pain relief options

Wondering if a water birth without epidural would be any good for me? X

I had an epidural, in order to be able to open.legs at all really. Gave birth on my back, as it all happened really quickly in the end. I was induced 2.5 weeks early, but I was obviously ready as one dose of prostin
to prime me for full.induction the following morning and she arrived in the early hours with about 3 pushes. I had been bedridden for over a month, was walking up and down stairs in 4 days!

I was on crutches by the end of my second pregnancy.

I delivered ds kneeling up on the bed. The head end was right up and I was leaning forwards onto it. Took a while for things to get better but I felt much less pain pretty much immediately.

Good luck op.

TBH, I was hoping for a natural birth & probably obstructed the medics. I had loose ligaments anyway (genetic & a dancer) which were exacerbated. My pelvis was completely dislocated & I insisted on trying. 3 exhausting days later, I had a Csection. As they were stitching me up, consultant said that all future pregnancies have to be elective Csections. And they & me were much healthier.

Definitely hands and knees, whether in pool or out of it. By the end I probably couldn't have stepped into a pool tbh. I was then on my back for the placenta delivery, that was ok.
If you need stitching afterwards they will want you on your back with your knees spread, have a think about how wide you can spread them without pain. Measure with a ruler if necessary!! Decline stirrups, as a p.p. says.
Good luck! My births were a walk in the park compared to the horrors of SPD!!

A physio recommended kneeling on all fours for giving birth and during pregnancy. I gave birth kneeling up in a pool. The support from the warm water helped. I felt some relief straight away as there was less weight pushing down onto my pelvis. I was able to move about a bit more than you though - didn't quite need crutches to get around.

Once my waters broke there was a sense of relief as there was much less pressure, I was able to give birth without issue. Was on my back though as induced and constantly monitored. Once baby arrived I felt like a gazelle compared to beforehand even with tearing and 15hrs of labour!!

So sounds like no to an epidural and go on all fours in the pool works, okay that sounds good.
I'll put an epidural on my notes in case I need one but fingers crossed water birth works!
Thanks everyone x

Don't know if it's too late to comment but WATER BIRTH!!! I was on crutches with spd and signed off work with my first and a water birth was the best decision I've ever made. I'm suffering again this time, it's all much worse much more quickly and I definitely want another water birth.

An epidural risks you legs being put into a position which could be damaging so I'd say avoid if possible.

You'll be pleased to hear that after the pain of severe Spd the actual labour and birth is not bad in comparison Smile also I'm sure that having such a loose pelvis can make the delivery easier. Every cloud!

Good luck and I'm sorry to hear you're suffering. This condition can be evil!
