What can I tell work?

I have booked an appointment for a termination (should be medical as very early currently) for 2 weeks time. I just don't know what to tell work. I will need two nights off, the night before and the one following.

I know I can just say a minor op and not give any details, but I would feel better if I had a solid reason to give. I work with lovely people but they can be a bit nosey. Any ideas please?

Understandable on the nosey point in not wanting to tell them, could you use dental treatment as an excuse if they ask for more detail after saying a minor op? you could then claim you need an extra day for recovery?

Thanks I hadn't thought of dental. I was considering saying something gynecological but couldn't think what!

I'd be tempted to steer clear of saying dental problem is if you start being vague then looks suspicious .
you could just ring in sick 2 days with diarrhoea people tend not to ask too many question when you say that. Or just say small gyny procedure.

Cells lasered from cervix after a smear test came back suspect? Polyps removed from reproductive tract? Pelvic floor surgery? Minor op for heavy periods (can't remember term for this!).

A friend of mine said appendix removed and another claimed a bowel operation

Can you not tell your line manager? They should absolutely keep it confidential.

I used to work somewhere that was prolific for gossip, with HR being the worst. One of my direct reports decided to have a termination but was terrified of people finding out. I was having IVF treatment at the time, which she knew, but she also knew she could trust me. I logged her sickness as a stomach bug officially. She had some complications and needed a follow up procedure and more time off, which would have triggered an investigation/disciplinary had I not known the true circumstances.

I really hope you have someone at work who can support you through this. Thanks

WhatNow40 Like fuck I would have told anyone at work! Even the thought of my line manager anonymously telling an Internet forum about it makes me feel sick...
