You may still want someone with you even after a local never had one personally but my friend found it difficult to walk etc after hers so I'd recommend you have your partner or anybody close to you to stay with you and the kids at home 💙

Flojo2017x · 27/04/2018 16:17

My partner will be at home and either he or my sister will be coming with me. Im really nervous about how painful it will be. Other than that i feel at peace with my decision mostly. I have 3 beautiful children already, im just very nervous x

I think you need to report your own post and put into pc choices where people with experience will see it Flowers

Hi ,

I have . I was 5 weeks and had it at a Marie Stopes clinic . I was given local and I remember coming around after less than 8 mins and feeling a little drunk . Didn’t feel any pain just a little wobbly. I had my Mum there to take me home after sitting in the recovery room for an hour . Feel free to pm me . Thinking of you x

ShesAYamEater · 28/04/2018 00:52

have you looked at all your options op? at your very early stage im sure there is the abortion pill.....(sorry for being so blunt dont know what else to call it)

Minkies13 · 28/04/2018 13:01

I had one a few years ago however was under for about 7 mins, not awake. But I was fine after. A bit drowsy. My mum drove me home as it's not recommended you drive. I did vomit at home after a few hours. I called the nurses and they said it was due to all the hormones leaving my body. I just took a maxalon and felt normal again.

X

I personally would choose surgical over the pill - it’s over more quickly and you’re not dealing with it at home . My friends who’ve had it has several hours of pain . Surgical was very much in our and no pain other than period like cramps for me xx

Branleuse · 28/04/2018 13:33

are some of you talking about sedation when the op is asking about a local.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 28/04/2018 13:39

I have. I'm not going to lie it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, even with a local anaesthetic, but over in seconds. I drove myself home after 30 minutes. I was 5 weeks x

Branleuse · 28/04/2018 14:55

I've advised my friends dd to go for GA or sedation as I think local for a procedure like this would be traumatic

I had mine under GA and was still able to go home the same day. I really wouldn't advise such an intrusive procedure whilst awake unless there really is no other option

Catsandkids78 · 28/04/2018 15:32

Sorry I’m confused - Marie stopes offer No sedation / light sedation or GA as far as I’m aware

Flojo2017x · 28/04/2018 15:42

Im with bpas not Marie stopes x

Have you thought about doing it medically? Then you wouldn’t need to go under at all. Youre still early enough along that this can be done. You take a pill and then return the next day for another. You have to wait a while there and then you would go home. No sedation or anything that way.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 28/04/2018 20:21

Unless you desperately need to drive yourself home, I don’t think local is your only option. You’ll need to be observed for just as long after local as you would conscious sedation or general anaesthetic so you’ll get home in the same timeframe no matter what.

I had a termination under conscious sedation a few years ago (due to my asthma they weren’t keen to do a GA) and couldn’t tell you a single thing about the procedure, it worked amazingly and I walked out of the door feeling absolutely fine about an hour and a half later. The bleeding afterwards was very minimal.

Bibijayne · 29/04/2018 06:47

I know some one who had local. She said it was still pretty painful - she doesn't respond well to anastethics though.

lynmilne65 · 29/04/2018 07:10

Had one at 17, am nearly 70 and remember everything ☹️

Flojo2017x · 29/04/2018 07:16

I definitley dont want medical, to me it feels much more traumatic. I'm completely at peace with my decision so its not a case of me remembering it or not as im trying not to look at it as a big bad scary thing, just a procedure i need to carry on with my life. Im just nervous about the pain. Ive had a few replies from people but i think many get confused about which anesthetic they had. For those that aren't sure, local anesthetic is being awake, general anesthetic is being put to sleep.

Also one of the biggest reasons that im looking st local anesthetic is because im from leicester, and the clinic here only offers medical (the pilll) or surgical with local. If i want general it means travelling to birmingham and i don't want to have to sit on s train afterwards for an hour. Id just like to go home x

I had one with local at 10 weeks. It was very painful, especially when he opened my cervix with the speculum ? I screamed out in pain. I found it difficult to walk afterwards, and it was incredibly traumatic even though it was the right decision. I have also had medical at 5 weeks and was much more peaceful going home to pass the sac at home. It was painful but with painkillers and being in my own bed for a few hours was 100 times better. Good luck

lynmilne65 · 29/04/2018 07:35

Am not remembering by choice

NubianVeganQueen · 29/04/2018 22:14

Bpas offer three types of surgical - one with anaesthetic only, one with anaesthetic and sedation and one with general (asleep).

With the anaesthetic and sedation you are awake but drowsy and feel less pain. However you do need someone to drive you home afterwards - sounds like local with sedation would be best if you could have that one?
