Medical abortion booked

I have a medical abortion booked for 9 days time (i’ll be 5 and half weeks when I get it done). I’m getting all 4 pills given to me at the same time as I’m having to go to a clinic an hour away from where I live (I don’t drive) so they are going to just do it all on the same day granted that everything looks ok on the internal ultrasound etc.
I’ve had a surgical abortion before 9 years ago when I was 9 weeks pregnant (without anaesthetic) and it was horrendous. I’m expecting this to be very unpleasant too with really bad pain for a few hours and then heavy bleeding for a while. Can anyone put my mind at rest as I suffer from health anxiety and I’m getting myself worked up about it. Thank you

Also OP, on the subject of the internal scan, i was told that at 5-6 weeks it might be difficult for them to find anything (this was also with BPAS) but the nurse had a good old, determined search and found what she needed to scan and print.

I just thought I’d let you know, as if she hadn’t I would have had to wait until I was 10 weeks due to waiting times for appointments!

@gin thanks for the info. Hopefully they can see what they need and I can get it over with next week. If I have to wait until later then i’ll Be opting for the surgical procedure

I had one done a few months ago and also read horror stories online, which made me particularly concerned about taking the tube home.

Pregnancy was dated at around 6 weeks, but the scan showed it may have actually been 4 1/2 to 5 weeks.

Despite what I had read, I had zero pain or cramping. They gave me painkillers to take at home, but I never needed them.I have fairly light periods anyway, but I found it was still lighter and shorter than a period.

I had worried the lack of pain and bleeding was a sign it hadn’t worked, but the check up after showed everything had gone perfectly fine.

Hope all goes well

@CaptinKitty did they find it on the internal scan easily enough?
When they've dated it 4.5-5 weeks is that from conception or including the time before the conception happened? I'm so worried they're going to send me home for two more weeks I don't think I'll be able to cope with that

They date it from the first day of your last period. That’s what happened at my last abortion when I got scanned. I was something like 6 weeks since conception but was dated as being around 8+2 weeks.
I know a few people who have had abortions at the 5 week point and none have been turned away. I tried to book mine for last week but she said I had to wait until 5 weeks to ensure they wouldn’t send me away.
I’ve read that some of the really bad horror stories online are written by anti abortion activists to scare people into going ahead

I had an abortion at 9 weeks back in October. It was so late because I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 6 weeks. I had the medical so was just within the cut off point. Anyway, it was painless and nothing like the horror stories you hear. It was nothing like being in labour etc etc.
The bleeding lasted ages for me though. 6 weeks it dragged on for, and then my period came a week after the bleeding stopped.

Purplerain101 · 27/01/2018 14:30

@topaz thank you. I get quite bad cramps during my periods so hopefully it won’t be too much worse than that. My bleeding after the surgical abortion I had went on for ages too. Heavy for a week and then like a light period for another few weeks.

@namechange10

They seemed to find it on the internal scan easily enough - the only visible thing was the yolk sac, but no heartbeat.

The original date of 6 weeks was on the basis of my last period, but I guess the measurement of the yolk sac etc showed it was slightly less than that.

I paid for mine privately as I wasn't comfortable with the wait for Marie Stopes and was due to get married a couple of weeks later, so I wanted it done asap. They didn't raise any concerns regarding how far along I was or mention it at the time of booking

Have any of you/did any of you have cramps that felt like bad period pain when pregnant? I keep getting cramps and think I might be miscarrying but theres not a spot of blood. Don’t have any other symptoms like sickness

@purplerain101 can I please ask how you got on with your ma? I had mine on Thursday (dated 5 weeks one day) bleeding heavily but only passed one major clot and wondering how normal that is based on my gestation? Did you do a normal pregnancy test after? Clinic told me not to and to just do their special test in 2 weeks due to hcg hanging around xx

@Purplerain101
Hi there i know its been a while but just wanted to ask , did everything go to plan and went well? How are u feeling 🌼🌻🌼

stressedmummy2018 · 14/05/2018 09:35

Hi @purplerain101 I am doing really well thank you. All went ok with the procedure, and no further complications and I am now on the mini pill.

I do seem to have developed some acne on my back and chest since the procedure so I think my hormones could be all over the place.
