What to do - MAP or coil??

DH and I have been incredibly stupid and didn't use protection even tho we don't want a 3rd DC - we have sex so rarely it's almost newsworthy.

Checked my period app and I'm likely to be ovulating. FFS.

I can't sleep, been reading about Levonelle only being effective before ovulation, and the copper coil being better as an effective emergency contraceptive.
Bit scared of the coil.

On another world where finances/age/relationships/older DC's SN weren't an issue I'd have another baby. But reality means no. Sad

We're both worried about this leading to pregnancy as we're v fertile. DH has apologised for getting 'carried away', equally my fault of course.

What's best? I can get to a pharmacy after school run, but no idea when my GPs could fit a coil.

Argh. Help please.

How about doing both?

Although disrupting ovulation is a main action of MAP - it's not the only one (it can also disrupt implantation) so still worth trying (it reduces number of conceptions by about 85%).

Get a coil as soon as you can. Then there's also contraception in place ready for any future rare occasions.

I would get the copper coil. If you definetly don’t wish to become pregnant. I wouldn’t risk getting the Levonelle. I also wouldn’t go to the GP to fit a copper coil. I advise you to attend a sexual health clinic. They’ve fitted hundreds of IUD’s in comparison to yourGP. You can go to your nearest sexual health clinic and request to get an emergency contraception (e.g Copper coil IUD).

Thank you - that's probably wise.
I'll find out where the nearest clinic is...

I done both.. I would recommend the copper coil. At least it will be in place for five years and can be removed at any time. Plus no hormones :)

Thank you notgivingin & scaevola - I did both, belt and braces with Levonelle and then managed to get the copper coil at a GUM clinic same day - notgivingin so so glad I went to a clinic, the nurse was great, it wasn't even painful!
Plus, they said if the copper one doesn't work out for me they're happy to swap it for Mirena/Jaydess.

Very relieved, thank you vipers! 🐍
